New Samsung Galaxy Z TriFold features massive 10-inch display; a crazy 3.9mm thin when unfolded
While rumours have been bandied about for months, Samsung has finally made their first trifold foldable phone official. Leveraging lessons learned from seven generations of the Galaxy Z Fold series, the new Galaxy Z TriFold uses a completely different design from the competition that looks both durable and practical in equal measure.
Samsung Galaxy Z TriFold – Design
Rather than having an outer display that folds around and over the hinge like some competing trifold designs, the Samsung Galaxy Z TriFold has a single outwards facing 6.5-inch FHD+ Dynamic AMOLED 2X 120Hz display.
The left and right panels unfurl to reveal the main 10-inch QXGA+ Dynamic AMOLED 2X 120Hz display on the other side. This keeps the main panel protected to some degree from potential knocks and nicks from daily use while retaining a functionally sized front display for most tasks. The best part? It’s just 3.9mm thin when unfolded, making it even thinner than the Galaxy Z Fold7 when deployed. When folded down, it’s 12.9mm thin.
Key to the slimness and practicality of the Samsung Galaxy Z TriFold is that it leverages every bit of foldable phone engineering know-how they’ve developed over the years. The Armor Flexhinge hinges use a dual-rail structure with the two hinges on the phone being of slightly different sizes and made of durable titanium to ensure a proper opening and closing experience while being made of tough Armor Aluminum and minimising any gap between devices.
Samsung has also managed to fold the 10-inch display down twice without compromising performance while also being able to add in a reinforced coating for better shock absorption.
That’s not all, the Galaxy Z is also made of tough Advanced Armor Aluminium that resists nicks and modest scratches too. The backplate is also made of a robust ceramic-glass fiber-reinforced polymer while the frame also ensures that the screens don’t meet each other when folded down. The front display is also protected by Corning Gorilla Glass Ceramic 2.
In effect, you have a phone-sized form factor that can unfold into a massive ten-inch tablet which is quite a feat, more so for the fact that Samsung has managed to retain an IP48 dust and water resistance rating for it.
Samsung Galaxy Z TriFold – Specifications
In terms of hardware, the Samsung Galaxy Z TriFold comes with the Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy chipset which is a custom variant for Samsung phones and which also powers the Galaxy Z Fold7. This is paired with 16GB RAM and either 512GB or 1TB of storage with the latest Android 16 running One UI 8 running under the hood. Keeping it powered is a three-cell battery divided across the panels with a total 5,600mAh capacity with the whole affair supporting 45W wired charging and 15W wireless charging.
On the rear, the Galaxy Z TriFold features a triple camera setup culled from the Galaxy Z Fold7 which consists of a primary 200MP main camera, a 10MP telephoto camera with 3x optical zoom and a 12MP ultra wide angle lens. Inset in a punchhole and on the front cover display are a single 10MP camera for selfies and video calls.
At present, the Galaxy Z TriFold is slated for purchase in Korea on 12th December 2025 followed by China, Taiwan, Singapore, the UAE and the United States later on. There’s no word on if the phone will launch in Malaysia and how much it will cost at the time of writing but it will most certainly cost more than what the Galaxy Z Fold7 retailed for.
