Samsung Global Startup Acceleration program 2018 to supercharge local start-ups

As part of Samsung’s global corporate social responsibility initiatives across the globe to give back to the community and improve Malaysia, the brand has embarked on an innovative initiative to support and accelerate the growth of local start-ups via their Samsung Global Startup Acceleration (GSAP) programme.

As part of the GSAP 2018 initiative, Samsung Malaysia has taken 16 promising Malaysian start-ups under their wing, divided into 7 teams, who hail from diverse industries such as education, agriculture, fashion and more and paired them up with an experienced team of mentors on a rigorous five-day program that will show these start-ups the ropes in terms of how best to pitch their vision and achieve sustainable success in the long term. Among these start-ups are Go Coach, DENCONS, ROYALUT, SEMEK, AiRecca, Floodsensed and more.

“There are so many ambitious startups that have seen beyond impressive growth; and as a company that supports the idea of chasing after your dream and making happen, we at Samsung want to do as much as we can to help budding entrepreneurs realise their ambitions. From this program, we hope that our participants have been given a boost, and that their business dreams will soon become reality,” said Yoonsoo Kim, President of Samsung Malaysia Electronics.

The program, which is taking place at the International Youth Centre (IYC) Kuala Lumpur is a collaborative effort with the Ministry Youth and Sports Malaysia, International Youth Centre (IYC) Kuala Lumpur, Startup Malaysia and the Malaysian Youth Council.

The mentors participating in the Samsung Global Startup Acceleration program consist of a host of Samsung’s experts and engineers from Samsung Headquarters. During the five-day training camp, participants were trained in the areas of business problem-solving such as marketing, engineering, design, business strategy, and more.

Through initiatives such as this, we believe that these rookie businesses have been given a stepping stone forward, towards a future that all of us dream of. We will continue to help our surrounding communities to the best of our capabilities. By the conclusion of the five-day program, which finishes on 10 August 2018, the top finalists who have been selected on the basis of their vision and business model have been arranged to receive extended support through a local incubator for six months.
