Samsung launches the Galaxy Tab S4 and Tab A 10.5 (2018) in Malaysia
New Android slates are few and far between but Samsung is aiming to make things a notch more interesting as they’re launching their premium Galaxy Tab S4 and workhorse Galaxy Tab A 10.5 (2018) tablets in Malaysia.
The higher-end Galaxy Tab S4 has better hardware, LTE connectivity and a crisper display with an ambit as a productivity device while the revamped Galaxy Tab A 10.5 is intended for more relaxed content consumption with a more affordable price tag. Here’s a lowdown on what makes them both unique…
Samsung Galaxy Tab S4
The premium Galaxy Tab S4 has been designed to significantly expand on the potential of a traditional tablet as a productivity device as it comes with their new DeX mode that lets you interact with it with a desktop style user interface, ideally with a paired up with a wireless mouse or its keyboard cover though you can get about with the touchscreen and its bundled SPen stylus in a pinch. Like the Galaxy Note9’s DeX mode, you can run apps and resize their windows including the Microsoft Office Suite and Google Docs, which makes multitasking a cinch.
The hardware it packs on offer is substantial as tablets go with a 10.5-inch, 2,560 x 1,600 pixel Super AMOLED display up front, a Snapdragon 835 octacore processor, 4GB RAM and 64GB of expandable storage, a rear 13-MP camera paired up with a front-facing 8-MP camera along with a huge 7,300mAh battery for extended endurance in the field (and about 16 hours of video playback).
Where it ups the ante is that it also has a SIM card slot for LTE connectivity away from Wi-Fi and their vaunted Samsung Knox defense-grade security to ensure information stored on it doesn’t fall into the wrong hands. Fortunately, it also retains a 3.5mm audio jack and it’s a dab hand at entertainment too as it has a quartet of speakers tuned by AKG with Dolby Atmos support. The Galaxy Tab S4 ships with a bundled S Pen in either black or gray for RM3,099. For a limited time till 31 October, Samsung is throwing in a free book cover worth RM 207 on the house when you purchase the Tab S4.

It runs on Android 8.1 on a 1.8GHz octacore and has 3GB RAM with 32GB of expandable memory though it lacks a SIM card slot so it’s reliant on Wifi for connectivity. The rear comes with an 8-MP autofocus camera while the front has a 5-MP camera with a flash for selfies. Keeping the whole affair powered is a 7,300mAh battery juiced by a USB Type C port. It also has a quartet of speakers emplaced at each corner of the tablet with Dolby Atmos support to give games and movies a more visceral aural kick.
It also notably adds in a an array of child-friendly features that include a Kids Mode with edutainment apps, a Kid browser along with a host of other child-friendly entertainment.
