Owning a home is easy. Getting it to feel like a single, cohesive space is the part no one really warns you about.
Most of us end up building our homes the same way we build everything else – piece by piece. A fridge from one brand, a washing machine from another, furniture picked up along the way, appliances chosen more for function than how they actually match visually or perform within the space. Individually, they all work. Together, not so much.

That’s where the “rojak home” problem starts to show itself. Not in a dramatic way, but in small daily friction — mismatched finishes, cluttered visual lines, appliances that feel like they belong to different worlds or some alternate timeline.

So when I was invited to the SHARP Japanese Living To My Home showcase at Aatas Living in Petaling Jaya, I was actually curious whether a different approach was actually possible – one where appliances, furnishings, and interior design aren’t separate decisions, but part of the same cohesive living system.
What is the SHARP Japanese Living To My Home Showcase?

In essence, the showcase itself is a joint collaboration between renowned appliance brand SHARP with home furnishings brand Nitori and interior designer outfit Aatas Living.
All three brands embody clean, minimalist Japanese design and technological innovation, integrated into one cohesive showcase that visitors can experience for themselves in an up close and personal fashion.
Located at the Aatas Living showroom at Galan Gasing, the Japanese Living to My Home showcase is spread across their entire showroom which spans the ground and first floor. Stepping inside the showcase was like night and day.
Crossing the threshold outside from the blazing heat of the noonday sun, I was immediately greeted by the cooling of air conditioning at full blast and a calm, welcoming ambiance that was the epitome of Japanese interior design with exquisite plays on textures, relaxing lighting and a cohesive, harmonious look.

Taking pride of place with several installations was SHARP’s new MATELIA 2-door fridge that comes in not one but four different finishes that include a posh matte white glass, a classic matte black, a matte brown and the star of the show, a texture slate finish that lends subtle, random striated ridges across the fridge panelling that make it as much an art statement as it is a home appliance.
