Shell Helix and Waze launch Asia’s first accident-prone spot alerts

Some stretches of Malaysia’s road network are unfortunately rather accident prone though Shell Helix and navigation app Waze aim to address that as they will be introducing warnings that pop up on the eponymous navigation app when users approach any of these hazardous spots in Malaysia this coming holiday season.

From May 16 to July 15, just in time for the upcoming holiday season, a special alert will appear on Waze courtesy of Shell Helix when users approach any of 50 accident-prone spots in Peninsular Malaysia that have been identified based on data submitted by Waze users. The alert will appear when the car is stationary to minimise distractions and will pop up within a five kilometre radius of the accident-prone spot. Depending on feedback and the effectiveness of the collaboration in the coming weeks, this warning feature may become a regular feature of the app in future.

During the pre-peak travel period, Shell Helix will also be running a special oil change promotion for Waze users and members of the public who catch their online Aidilfitri video on Youtube on Facebook. Users will enjoy RM30 off by presenting a unique promo code that will be flashed on the Waze app and also in the video that is good against an oil change service at participating Shell Helix branded workshops and Shell retail stations’ Lubebay service outlets nationwide.
