Sony debuts RX100 V, Alpha 7R II and a6500 cameras in Malaysia
Sony Malaysia today officially launched a trio of their most powerful cameras in downtown Kuala Lumpur: the uber compact RX 100 Mark V, the Alpha 7R II and the a6500.
Sony RX100 Mark V
The RX100 Mark V is the successor to last year’s mark IV and retains everything that made it one of the most powerful compact cameras in the market. It still has a 20.1-MP 1.0-type stacked CMOS sensor, a Zeiss Vario-Sonnar 24-70mm F/1.8 – 2.8 lens and a pop-up electronic viewfinder but augments this with an enhanced autofocus system that adds in 315 PDAF points that cover 65% of the frame and clocks in with the ability to focus on a subject in just 0.05 seconds, making it one of, if not the camera with the fastest autofocus time on the planet; the Mk IV has a slightly slower 0.09 focus time.
The RX100 V also has a new continuous shooting mode at up to 24fps for up to 150 shots at a time and a 120fps 1080P slo-mo video mode. Essentially, this compact cruiser of a camera is an immensely capable super compact that lets you capture snaps and 4K video, with both framed via the aforementioned pop-up EVF or the rear tiltable display in a form factor only slightly larger than two stacked decks of cards. It retails for RM4,599 in Malaysia.
Sony a6500
The successor to the earlier a6300, the Sony a6500 is their latest incarnation of their top-shelf APS-C mirrorless workhorse camera range and offers up the ability to snag 24-MP snaps via the integrated 2.36million dot OLED EVF or the rear tiltable touchscreen.
Getting about is via the aforementioned touchscreen or the built-in control buttons on the right side of the casing. The a6500 is capable of 11fps continuous shooting for up to 100 snaps in RAW or up to 300 JPEGS with your finger held down on the trigger while 5-axis in-body stabilisation ensures judder free snaps. The camera also offers 4K video capture to the tune of about 20 minutes. The a6500 is available for RM6,499 in Malaysia for the body only.
Sony A7R II
The biggest and most powerful camera launched today was their impressive A7R II which is a 42-MP full-frame mirrorless camera that comes with the world’s first 45mm BSI CMOS sensor, a hybrid autofocus system and 5-axis image stabilisation to capture silky smooth, ultra sharp images and 4K video.
The chassis is weather-sealed and hewn from magnesium alloy and comes with a 2.36million dot XGA OLED viewfinder with 0.7x magnification on-sensor phase detection autofocus, 4K video capture along with a burst rate of 24fps. It retails for RM11,999 for the body only in Malaysia. For more details on these 3 snappers, check out www.sony.com.my.
