Sony’s new Android 4K HDR TVs look the business
Sony’s latest BRAVIA X93D and X85D series TVs that were unveiled last month join a small but slowly growing line-up of HDR-ready TVs in Malaysia and come with a host of interesting refinements to serve up crisp 4K HDR footage onscreen. For the uninitiated, HDR stands for High Dynamic Range, a term usually bandied about by photographers though in this context, it means a given image will have scads more detail in darker areas and richer, brighter colours in the brighter bits so that there’s wider contrast and richer colours between the darkest parts and the brightest parts of an image. Ergo, a HDR compatible telly like Sony’s latest X93D and X85D series are able to deliver ultra luscious visual eye candy though you’ll need HDR compatible video footage to make the most of it.
The new BRAVIA TVs all run Android TV under the hood, which immediately grants you access to the usual array movies, music and the like along with the ability to push content from your phone or slate straight to the TV via Google Cast. Sony’s usual Triluminos imaging tech is also present to deliver richer, more accurate colours onscreen.
Both TVs look exceptionally slim with ultra minimal bezels up front. Where both differ is that the X93D series TVs uniquely come with X-tended Dynamic Range PRO tech for even more vibrant contrast and colours onscreen.
The X93D series TV comes in a 65-inch model for RM19,999. The X85D series telly comes in two sizes – the X85D 55-inch variant retails for RM7,499 while the X85D 65-inch variant retails for RM10,999. For more details swing by Sony’s official site at www.sony.com.my
