Synology releases DiskStation Manager 7.1 beta with powerful core storage upgrades and more
Renowned network attached storage provides Synology has just released the beta of their DiskStation Manager 7.1 software that offers expanded functionality across key areas over version 7.0.
Synology DiskStation Manager 7.1 beta enhancements
The new DiskStation Manager 7.1 beta adds SMB DFS capability for administrators to link multiply Synology systems together for easier access by end users to omit the need to remember multiple separate addresses.
Another addition is an optimisation of background tasks into a more transparent, administrator-friendly overview across different user accounts and faster SSD caching.. For Synology High Availability clusters, the new DiskStation Manager 7.1 beta enables users to manage and view drives from a single instance of Storage Manager.
Additional enhancements with the update include the ability to clone and replicate an entire Synology system as a complete, bare-metal level backup using tech from their Synology Active Backup for Business feature to offer recovery options in the event of a catastrophic site failure.
Among the other improvements with the Synology DiskStation Manager 7.1 beta include:
- Active Backup for Business: bandwidth control, expanded monitoring and reporting capabilities, and support for DSM backups
- Active Insight: centralized login activity monitoring and Hyper Backup task statuses
- Synology C2 Hybrid Share: server-side snapshots for better file protection
- Directory Server: support for read-only domain controllers to improve deployment security and flexibility
- Synology Drive: revamped mobile user experience and improved monitoring/auditing capabilities
- MailPlus: Virtual DSM support, expanded management options, importing and migration improvements
- Virtual Machine Manager: storage I/O performance improvements and QoS capabilities
