Synology DSM 7.0 launched that offers enhanced security, ease of use and more

In a live streamed event, Synology launched their long awaited Synology DiskStation Manager (DSM) 7.0 operating system which features updates that enhance its security, system management and data collaboration abilities. Synology also announced an expansion of their Synology C2 platform with four new cloud services.

What is Synology DSM 7.0

While they’ve released modest version updates over the last few years and maintained version 6.x for quite awhile, the updated DSM 7.0 operating system is one of Synology’s most anticipated updates and brings around a raft of improvements that come in sync with their recent release of multiple NAS and SAN offerings in the market.

Large amounts of unstructured data is constantly being generated at exponential rates,” said Philip Wong, Synology CEO, and Founder. “Traditional centralized storage deployments can no longer keep up with ever-increasing bandwidth and performance demands. Edge cloud products, like Synology’s storage management lineup, are one of the fastest-growing solutions in the market today because they uniquely address the challenges that modern businesses meet.

For the uninitiated, Synology DSM 7.0 is the latest version of their web-based operating system for Synology NAS products, allowing for remote access to files from a personal server without having to tinker with significant coding or network settings. To date, Synology states that over 8 million of Synology’s data solutions have been deployed across the globe running DSM which is quite an impressive feat indeed.

In the DSM 7.0 update, Synology has added support for up to 1PB volumes for large tasks and has redesigned the interface to offer a more streamlined user experience, beefed up login security and authentication solutions via their new Secure SignIn system that employs 2FA as well as more flexible cloud storage and enhanced system monitoring in the cloud.

The new update also coincides with the launch of several hybrid-cloud services that include Synology’s Active Insight which acts as a large-scale device monitoring and diagnostics solution; Hybrid Share which integrates on-premises solutions with C2 storage flexibility and synchronisation capabilities and C2 Identity that simplifies cross-site domain management. Synology C2 Updates

During the event, Synology also announced a quartet of new standalone solutions under their C2 services in the form of C2 Backup, C2 Password, C2 Transfer and C2 Identity. This array of services are able to work independently of each other and handle backup, password protection, secure file management and common SaaS cloud services with a slated gradual deployment from July 13th 2021 onwards.

Four years of rolling out and operating our cloud service has allowed us to integrate our expertise in data management with new technologies, enabling innovative optimizations that allow us to deliver a reliable but extremely cost-competitive solution,” said Wong. “We’re now looking at a path of rapid expansion into additional locations to address potential customers.”

Synology also announced that they will be establishing a data center in Taiwan which will be a strategic nexus for key markets in the Asia Pacific region. For more details check out www.synology.com
