The gorgeous new Honor 8 blends metal, glass and dual cameras in one sweet looking chassis
There’s a smartphone that has just hit the States and China that blends glass, metal, a dual 12-MP rear camera and has terrifyingly good specs in the form of a high-end octacore processor, 4GB RAM and a sharp 5.2-inch 1080p Super Amoled screen. While you’d reckon that it would cost an arm and a leg, it surprisingly doesn’t. And what is this epic uber budgetphone? Enter the Honor 8.
Huawei’s budget sub-brand that they’ve dubbed as Honor has released the Honor 8 for sale in the United States recently and earlier on in China and it’s every bit a flagship phone in terms of what hardware it offers though without the commensurate price tag. The price tag for an Honor 8 starts from US$300 USD and up which translates to about RM1,200 for the 3GB/32GB RAM variant.
The processor on the Honor 8 is their inhouse HiSilicon Kirin 950 processor seen on the business-oriented Mate 8 earlier this year. The rear camera is a similar setup as that seen on on this year’s flagship P9 and P9 Plus that has been co-engineered with Leica though it lacks the associated branding when integrated into the Honor 8. That’s not all, it also has a fingerprint reader with storage options that run in 32GB, 64GB and 128GB denominations which are expandable to boot. It even has a fairly hefty battery – a 3,000mAh job with fast charging support and a USB Type-C connector. Everything is crammed into a casing that’s 7.5mm thin sheathed in smooth 2.5D-angled glass and steel. Apparently, they’ve sheathed the rear in not one but a whopping 15 layers of glass to get the unique striated, semi-translucent finish that you can glimpse in the press shot above and it looks rather fetching indeed. Again, it’s mind boggling that something like this can be made at this price and the best part is that this corker of a budget superphone is coming to Malaysia. There’s no official launch dates or prices, mind but a recent press release has confirmed that it will be coming to the local market soon. Stay tuned for more details on what may just be the uber budget phone of the year.
