The new Samsung Galaxy A23 is an OIS-equipped camera phone that costs just RM999
The Samsung Galaxy A 2022 series offer plenty of value with 5G connectivity and OIS-equipped cameras to ensure steadier shots with the Galaxy A73, Galaxy A53 and Galaxy A33. Now, Samsung has added an even more affordable addition to its ranks with an OIS-packing camera dubbed the Galaxy A23 for Malaysia.
Optically stabilised cameras are a rarity in entry-level cameras due to their complexity and cost of manufacture so its inclusion in a sub-RM1,000 phone like the Galaxy A23 is an impressive feat indeed that trumps most of the competition in its price range.
The new Samsung Galaxy A23 features a 6.6-inch Full HD+ TFT V-Cut display sheathed in Corning Gorilla glass and a 90Hz refresh rate, a Snapdragon 680 processor running Android 12 and their own OneUI 4.1 overlay, 6GB RAM and 128GB of expandable storage via a microSD card slot. Of note here is that the Galaxy A23, like its siblings can assign up to 6GB of virtual RAM off its existing storage to augment the existing 6GB RAM. The only concession to an otherwise solid feature set here is that the phone is capped at 4G LTE connectivity.
Up front, the phone has a modest 8MP F/2.2 selfie camera while the rear has a quad camera array built around a primary 50MP F/1.8 camera with optical image stabilisation. Accompanying the main 50MP camera is a 5MP F/22 ultra wide angle camera, a 2MP macro camera and a 2MP depth sensor.
Biometrics are handled by a side-mounted fingerprint reader that doubles as a power button and the phone is powered by a 5,000mAh battery with 25W fast charging though there’s no wireless or reverse wireless charging.
