UGREEN 145W Retractable Car Charger Review – A Powerful All-in-One Charging Solution for Your Car

The nature of my work which spans offsite visits and extensive meetings requires heavy use of a Macbook as well as several phones which are rotated around for review. All this means that I go through battery power like prawns at a seafood buffet though the demands on my schedule mean that I rarely have the luxury of parking in a Starbucks and getting it all charged. 

When UGREEN issued a car charger that’s powerful enough to charge all my gear at once, I leapt at the chance to test it and after taking it for a whirl, here’s my UGREEN 145W Retractable Car Charger review where I outline just why it’s one of the best additions to my in-car setup.

From a design standpoint, UGREEN clearly focused on practicality rather than flashy aesthetic. Beyond its utilitarian design and practical dark gunmetal grey finish, what I appreciated with the UGREEN 145W Retractable Car Charger was its solid construction. It plugged in securely into the car’s cigarette lighter and stayed firmly in place even during bumpy drives on several of Malaysia’s back roads on extended work trips.

At first glance, the UGREEN 145W Retractable Car Charger looks like every other car charger out in the market though closer inspection reveals otherwise as it solves not one but two pain points for many car chargers. Not only does it have multiple ports with two USB-C ports and a USB-A port, it also has the juice to power multiple devices too, allowing for up to a whopping  combined 145W of power to charge everything from smartphones to tablets and even laptops too while you’re on the road.

Beyond its impressive charging output, what immediately sets it apart is its built-in retractable USB-C cable. Stretching some 70cm long, the cable lets you charge the vast majority of tech in the market with ease without having to fish around for another cable. In daily use, this feature turned out to be far more useful than expected. 

The cable pulls out smoothly when needed and retracts neatly when not in use, keeping my dashboard and console free from cable clutter. For anyone who drives daily, this small design touch genuinely improves convenience. As an added measure of reassurance, UGREEN has tested the cable retraction mechanism for over 25,000 retractions which far exceeds the lifespan of the charger and likely my car.

While detractors may balk at potential heat issues for such a high-powered car charger, UGREEN has built-in multiple extensive safety features including overcurrent, overvoltage, overtemperature, overpower and short-circuit protection to safely manage heat even with multiple devices being charged simultaneously. Even after several months of use and maxing out all its ports, I didn’t encounter any mishaps or issues with my gear, the charger or the port itself.

UGREEN 145W Retractable Car Charger Review – Strong and Consistent Performance

On paper, the UGREEN 145W Retractable Car Charger is capable of up to 145W of combined power if using every port at the same time. In practice, charging output varies depending on which combination of ports you use.

 If you use just the USB-C C2 port, you can get up to 100W of power which is more than sufficient to charge most ultraportable laptops. If you use just the retractable USB-C cable alone, you get up to 60W of power which is able to charge most smartphones including Apple’s latest iPhones and Samsung’s flagship phones. 

In practice, combining the USB-C C2 port and the retractable cable gets you the full 145W of power with 100W to charge the laptop from the C2 port and 45W on the retractable cable. If you use every port, you get 45W from the retractable cable, 65W from the USB C2 port and 7.5W from the remaining USB-C C1 port and USB-A port. Note that the charger doesn’t ship with a separate USB-C cable so if you’re aiming to use its additional ports, you’ll have to shell out for your own.

Performance is where the UGREEN 145W car charger really shines. As I do work out-of-office at cafés and client work sites from time to time, the 100W USB-C port had no problem charging my laptop while driving from one venue to another, something many standard car chargers simply can’t do. 

The retractable cable delivers up to 60W, which was more than enough to fast-charge my phone consistently. The remaining USB-C and USB-A ports were perfect for secondary devices like tablets, earbuds, or power banks.

What impressed me most was how well the charger manages power distribution. Even with multiple devices connected, charging speeds remained stable without noticeable drops. It supports PD 3.0, PPS, QC4+, and other fast-charging standards, making it compatible with a wide range of devices including iPhone, Samsung Galaxy flagship phones, Apple iPad tablets, MacBooks and Windows laptops.
