UGREEN 4-port USB 3.0 Hub Review

The UGREEN 4-port USB 3.0 Hub is a straightforward port expander that helps you expand a single USB port into four. 

UGREEN’s offering ships in a modest cardboard box and hosts a male USB-A port to dock jack into any USB-A port. This extends goes out to a plastic-braided cable to a compact housing that’s also made of plastic. It’s somewhat plasticky but it’s built in a very sturdy fashion.

The hub hosts four USB-A 3.0 ports, three of them emplaced on the top and one on the side which allows users to dock peripherals, storage drives or to charge other gear. Nestled in a corner is an interesting port – a female microUSB port for charging duties assuming you have gear that still uses it like older phones and power banks.

UGREEN 4-port USB 3.0 Hub performance

We hooked the UGREEN 4-port USB 3.0 Hub up to an ASUS ROG Strix SCAR 17 and tested each of the USB-A ports with a series of peripherals that included a mouse, a keyboard, a flash drive and an external hard drive. 

The mouse and keyboard paired up without issue and operated without any discernible lag when subjected to web browsing and general paperwork duties.

In the case of data transfer duties, the hub worked as advertised and recognised the USB drive and hard drive with relatively fast read and write speeds back and forth. A 350MB  file was transferred at 23.1MB/s in about 18 seconds which is quite respectable.

If you’re after a simple, expedient USB hub that expands your number of ports, the UGREEN 4-port USB 3.0 Hub is a reliable and relatively affordable option that’s well worth a look. Prices vary depending on the length of cable you’re looking for ranging from RM31.19 for a 0.5 meter cable all the way to RM33 for a 1 meter length cable.

It lacks port variety as it only has USB-A ports but that’s what other UGREEN’s other offerings like their recently reviewed UGREEN USB-C Multifunction Adapter are for.
