Ugreen 65W Nexode fast charger review – Fabulous, Foldable Fast Charger for RM139

At the minimum, mobile workers typically have to haul around a laptop or tablet and a smartphone though not all may use the same chargers which often leads to a jangling bag of cables and chargers to say nothing of the extra weight.

To address this, Ugreen has released a slew of portable chargers with multiple ports though their recent efforts are not only more compact, but more powerful and foldable too. Our Ugreen 65W Nexode fast charger review puts their latest foldable charger to the test to see if it’s worth your money!

Ugreen 65W Nexode fast charger review – Build and Design

In essence, the Ugreen 65W Nexode fast charger is a larger, heavier and more powerful version of the smaller 45W Nexode foldable charger. Astute readers will note that the Ugreen 65W Nexode fast charger bears more than a passing similarity to the smaller UGreen Nexode Mini 45W charger that we reviewed awhile back with a somewhat similar design though it has several notable differences.

When placed side by side, our Ugreen 65W Nexode fast charger review sample has approximately the same dimensions though it’s taller by a centimetre to accommodate the additional electronics and Gallium Nitride (GaN) cooling elements within while being a bit heavier in the bargain.

It also features an additional USB-A port alongside two USB-C ports for charging. Rather than being side-mounted like its smaller sibling, the larger Ugreen fast charger that we’re testing mounts its ports directly on top of the charger.

The base of the charger terminates in a UK-style three-pin prong which is appropriate for Malaysia, Singapore and other Commonwealth countries. Other variants exist with different foldable charger heads.

As we’ve mentioned in our prior 45W Nexode Mini Charger review, the design of the folding prongs is exceptional, allowing it to be easily stowed folded flat in a shoulder bag or backpack without any sharp bits pointing out while further compacting its footprint. The top mounted USB ports are also an improvement on the design, allowing for easier access to all three ports on the charger.

Ugreen 65W Nexode fast charger review – Performance

Up top, our Ugreen 65W Nexode fast charger review has two USB-C ports and a USB-A port with a collective total of 65W of fast charging. In keeping with other Ugreen fast chargers, the 65W Nexode fast charger has built-in circuitry that resets and redistributes the charge whenever you add or remove devices for charging as a safety measure with a quick but noticeable one-second pause when it happens. 

On paper, Ugreen vouches that it is capable of charging an iPhone 14 to 60% in 30 minutes if charged individually and supports a combination of Power Delivery 3.0 and 2.0 protocols, PPS, Quick Charge 4+ as well as Apple fast charging which covers the majority of smartphones, laptops, tablets and other gear currently in the market.

In effect, this means fast charging support for Apple’s iPhones, the vast majority of Android phones in the market including major manufacturers like Samsung, Huawei and Honor as well as most ultraportable laptops that have USB-C charging ports.

Of note is that our Ugreen 65W Nexode fast charger review features an enhanced, more compact implementation of their Gallium Nitride (GaN) tech which ensures more stable temperatures and charging speeds without affecting performance.

With two USB-C ports and a USB-A port, the Ugreen 65W Nexode fast charger review offers plenty of versatility. Charging speeds are split based on how many ports you’re using. When used individually, the first and second USB-C ports offer full 65W charging speeds. Oddly enough, the bottom USB-A port only maxes out at 22.5W charging even when used individually.

Charging speeds slow down if you’re using both USB-C ports simultaneously though oddly enough, power isn’t equally distributed to both ports with the first USB-C port (port C1) getting 45W of power and the second one (port C2)  just 20W. If you’re using all three ports, you’re only looking at 45W for the first USB-C port and just 8.5W for the remaining USB-C port and USB-A port. 

To fully leverage the full potential of the Ugreen 65W Nexode fast charger review, you’ll need a USB-C to C cable and take advantage of the first USB-C port especially if you’re charging more powerful items.

When using the first USB-C port and charging a Galaxy S23 Ultra and Magic5 Pro individually, the charger was able to offer the full rated charging speed with the S23 Ultra maxing out at 45W super fast charging and the Magic5 Pro at 65W fast charging which is a bit short of its officially rated charging speed. 

Our Ugreen 65W Nexode fast charger review sample wasn’t powerful enough to fast charge and simultaneously use a Huawei Matebook X Pro 2022 model which has 90W fast charging but it was able to trickle charge it over time solely using the primary USB-C port over the course of a lunch break.

During charging, the charger does get a bit warm but it’s to be expected with such a compact design. Over the course of the last couple of weeks of testing and hauling around about work spots in Kuala Lumpur, our Ugreen 65W Nexode fast charger review performed like a champ.

A quick coffee and a handy charging point allowed for a fully charged phone and a helpful top-up charge on the laptop to get through the rest of the day.

Should you buy Ugreen 65W Nexode fast charger review

The Ugreen 65W Nexode fast charger is a more powerful if slightly heavier version of the Ugreen Nexode Mini 45W charger with an additional USB-A port and additional power to charge more gear. If you’re a heavy user toting around a smartphone and laptop, this comes highly recommended.
