Vivo NEX with pop-up selfie cam arrives in Malaysia for RM2,799
Vivo Malaysia took the wraps off their latest camphone the Vivo NEX which incorporates quite a few interesting innovations, notably the inclusion of a pop-up selfie cam and an under-glass fingerprint reader on top of increasingly common niceties like a massive screen-to-body ratio and dual rear cameras.
In terms of hardware, the vivo NEX comes with a front-facing 6.59-inch Full HD+ Super AMOLED display, a top-of-the-line Snapdragon 845 processor running Android Oreo 8.1 overlaid with their FunTouch OS 4 user interface, 8GB RAM and 128GB of storage.
The front-facing 8-MP f/2.0 selfie snapper pops up on demand a second and has been rated to work over 50,000 times without failure. The rear comes with a vertically oriented dual camera which pirs up a 12-MP f/1.8 camera with a secondary 5-MP f/2.4 snapper that also integrates 4-axis optical image stabilisation (OIS).
Rather than a separate fingerprint reader, the Vivo NEX has one emplaced in the lower quadrant of the touchscreen beneath the touchscreen which lends it a seamless aesthetic.
Keeping things running is a 4,000mAh battery at the base that is juiced via a USB Type-C port. A particularly interesting feature with the Vivo NEX, on top of the under-glass fingerprint reader and pop-up camera is that the phone ditches a traditional earpiece and instead opts for what they call as Screen SoundCasting Technology that turns the screen into a speaker. It sounds rather quaint on paper, but audio quality at first blush on the showroom floor was up to snuff.
At launch it was announced to arrive in retail stores by July 28 nationwide at a price of RM2,799 in the only colour you’ll ever need, which in this case is black. For more details check out www.vivo.com/my
