Prolific content creators will appreciate the charms that Western Digital’s new portable storage solutions have to offer as they help to address all the traditional pain points that photographers, drone jockeys and other creative professionals have in their work. Just launched today in Malaysia is the My Passport Wireless SSD as well as the SanDisk Extreme Portable SSD, both of which offer fast read speeds and are immensely sturdy to boot.
WD’s latest My Passport Wireless SSD is a portable storage drive done up in matte black and orange trim built to the size and dimensions of a . The chunky build isn’t just for looks – the chassis and internal storage is enveloped in a heavy bumper that protects against drops up to 1 meter in height while the inclusion of a solid state drive means that there’s no moving parts that can break, which adds quite a bit to its sturdiness.
Of note is the inclusion of a built-in card reader with 65MB/s read speeds that lets you copy the contents of a card at the push of a button while an integrated USB 3.0 port lets you use a card reader if you need to use cards of another format. The My Passport Wireless SSD drive also offers a nippy 390MB/s read speed, which allows for users to stream 4K videos straight off the drive and view photos off WD’s My Cloud mobile app including RAW format images straight off a camera too. The drive also has a good ten hours of battery life based on a built-in 6,700mAh battery. This combination also incidentally makes it ideal as a streaming movie hub, which makes it immensely handy for road trips. The 250GB version retails for RM1,099, the 500GB version retails for RM1,499, the 1TB for RM2,299 and the largest 2TB variant retails for RM3,699.
Built to the dimensions of a chunky black credit card, the Sandisk Extreme Portable SSD has the modest dimensions of a chunky credit card, which makes it exceptionally portable while also packing IP55 water and dust resistance along with the ability to survive drops up to a meter to the deck. File transfers are primarily via a USB Type-C port with nippy 550MB/s read speeds.
The Sandisk Extreme Portable SSD ships out of the box preformatted in ExFAT, which allows you to use it for current day PCs and Macs and comes three sizes. The 250GB version retails for RM529, the 500GB for RM829 , the 1TB for RM1,699 and the massive 2TB version for RM3,299.
