When one door closes, another opens. While Leica is best known among smartphone users for their ground-breaking collaboration with Huawei back in the day that resulted in a slew of excellent camera phones including the current powerful P50 Pro, they’ve now announced a strategic partnership with Xiaomi. The first fruits of the Xiaomi and Leica strategic partnership will be a new flagship camphone with a slated July 2022 launch window.
What is the new Xiaomi and Leica strategic partnership
Beyond this announcement and an official press release, there hasn’t been much mention as to the extent of the new collaboration and how much of a hand that Leica will have in the optics and cameras of the new, as yet unreleased and unnamed, Xiaomi flagship camphone. If Leica follows their traditional playbook, they’ll likely have a hand with licensing out the lenses and how the overall output of how images look on the smartphone’s cameras much like their prior work but nothing has been officially mentioned yet.
