Xiaomi goes virtual with Mi VR Play headset
Xiaomi’s philosophy of offering well designed hardware at bargain prices has held them in good stead so far as they’ve come up with their first notebook along with a host of other devices like an electric scooter. Now, they’re taking a stab at virtual reality with their new Mi VR Play headset.
The headset is wrapped in lightweight lycra for comfort and has a two-way zipper that lets you put in anything from a 4.7 all the way up to a 5.7-inch smartphone. Paired together with the headset is a Mi VR app that comes with a host of content from media partners like Conde Nast Traveler, YouKu and Dooribun from Korea which gives a host of 2D and 3D content straight off the bat.
While the official launch date and price hasn’t been announced as yet, Xiaomi did announce a call for beta testers and managed to get a whopping one million registrations in under eight hours. Of course, the fact that the Mi VR Play was being sold for just RMB1 (about MYR0.60) was also icing on the cake. No word on if and when it reaches Malaysia or the global market outside of China but we’ll keep you posted.
