Xiaomi outs Mi Box Android TV 6.0 box at Google I/O
While they’re best known for making smartphones along with an eclectic array of home goods that include air purifiers, smart weighing scales and TVs, Xiaomi’s hit the big leagues as they took to the stage at this year’s Google I/O conference where they debuted the Mi Box set top box.
The Mi Box runs Android TV 6.0 under the hood and supports 60fps 4K content out of the box along with the latest HDR10 standard that will be enabled from Android N onwards. The palm-sized matte black box crams in a quad-core ARM Cortex-A53 CPU, 2GB RAM, a Mali 450 GPU, 8GB onboard storage and a HDMI 2.0a port along with a USB port on the rear.
It also comes bundled with a wireless remote control that resembles traditional remote though with a mike and built-in motion sensors to play simple games and access voice commands via Google Cast.
The second controller, dubbed the Mi Game Controller can be purchased separately and bears a surprising resemblance to a PlayStation dualshock controller complete with D-pads, shoulder triggers and a very familiar layout. It will support any Android device so you can optionally pair it up with a phone to get some serious gaming done.
The Mi Box is slated to hit the U.S first with other global markets slated later on with pricing and launch dates to be announced soon.
