Xiaomi Robot Vacuum X10 Plus Review – Powerful home companion cleans and mops your floors like a boss

Robot vacuums cover the gamut of designs, featuring all manner of features and capabilities at different price points but Xiaomi’s Robot Vacuum X10 Plus or it’s more common reference of being the X10+ is arguably the most capable design to date for what you pay for, offering a bevy of features such that it maximises that most important of commodities – time – for more productive tasks with minimal oversight and maintenance. 

We managed to get a unit for field testing and after putting it through a gauntlet that involved a house with kids and pets, here’s our Xiaomi Robot Vacuum X10 Plus review where we share our findings if it’s a true time saver or time waster.

What is the Xiaomi Robot Vacuum X10 Plus?

In essence, the Xiaomi Robot Vacuum X10 Plus is an automated cleaning system that consists of a robot vacuum and its companion charging dock with the ability to intelligently map out its area of operation and then vacuum as well as mop its assigned area of responsibility with minimal human oversight. 

The robot vacuum unit is smart enough to automatically refill itself with clean water and dump dirty water back in its charging dock along with cleaning its mop pads too.

Once you’ve set it up and given the unit its parameters and any no-go zones via the free Xiaomi Home app, you can pretty much leave it to its own devices bar the occasional top up of clean water and disposal of dust and dirty water every week or two depending on how aggressive your cleaning schedule is or how large your home is.

Xiaomi Robot Vacuum X10 Plus Review – Design and Setup

Aesthetically speaking, our Xiaomi Robot Vacuum X10 Plus review unit comes in a clean shade of white all around for both the vacuum itself and its large companion docking station. Rather than having it exposed for all and sundry to see, the water tanks and dustbin are integrated into the chassis of the docking station to give it a seamlessly clean look with the tanks and bins accessible via a flip-up top lid.

In addition to charging the robot vacuum in between cleaning sessions, the companion charging dock enables the robot vacuum to get its underside mop pads cleaned, allows the robot vacuum to swap out dirty water for clean water as well as offload collected dust into a disposable bag for later removal. 

Of note is that the Xiaomi X10 Plus decisively addresses the icky problem of mouldy mop pads and their off-putting damp smell over time as the charging dock is able to thoroughly rinse and spin dry the mop pads as well as dry them to ensure this scenario doesn’t happen.

Getting our Xiaomi Robot Vacuum X10 Plus review unit up and running was a relatively simple task. The box itself contains everything you need to get started and there’s a quick reference guide slapped onto the inner lid of the charging dock in case you get stuck. The unit does require a bit of basic assembly though the majority of the items are ready to run out of the box. 

Getting the main charging station up and running is simply a matter of getting it all plugged in and the 2.5l clean water tank loaded up. Fortunately, Xiaomi has colour coded the dirty water tank with a dark grey finish in case you’re not sure which is which.

The underside of the robot vacuum needs you to slot in its mop pads and sweeper array but it is otherwise a complete unit by itself. For protection during shipment, the front mounted sensor on the vacuum is covered by a sticker that is easy to remove and doesn’t leave any residue behind. 

With its clean, unobtrusive look, our Xiaomi Robot Vacuum X10 Plus review unit fits in with any home setup and getting it paired with the Xiaomi Home app was a relatively simple task. There’s a bit of initial rigmarole in assigning areas for the robot to work on including no-go zones and its cleaning schedule which takes some patience but is well worth the trouble.

The app also even helpfully tells you how much usage is left in any of the consumables for the robot vacuum and when they need replacement too.

Xiaomi Robot Vacuum X10 Plus Review – Performance

The Xiaomi robot vacuum X10 Plus unit itself is able to offer up to 4,000Pa of suction power to suck dust, dirt and whatnot into its dust container while its top spinning mop pads offer up to 180rpm speeds.

In terms of pathing, our Xiaomi robot vacuum X10 Plus review unit is surprisingly intelligent when it comes to pathfinding, leveraging what they refer to as S-Cross AI which consists of an array of sensors with up to millimetre-level sensor precision to recognise and avoid obstacles with the AI camera, using an intelligent algorithm to recognise and avoid furniture and, on paper, power cables and the like and even socks, and sundry footwear lying around underfoot.

The Xiaomi Robot Vacuum X10 Plus is also able to raise itself up slightly to access and clean most rugs and carpets while also automatically increasing its suction power too. The mop pads are impressive, with selectable humidity levels – low, medium and high – to tackle different cleaning scenarios too.

When plonked into a corner of my living room, my Xiaomi Robot vacuum X10 Plus review unit was able to adroitly handle cleaning a combination of marble and parquet flooring with sparse clusters of furniture all around.

Pathing was excellent and it was able to identify and clean under my coffee table and sofas, making its way around my living room without effort while even managing to identify and avoid some items like a stuffed toy lying around on the floor while cleaning its assigned area. On average, the X10+ vacuum offers a couple of hours of cleaning before it needs a recharge. Your mileage will vary though depending on how much cleaning work it needs as more powerful suction modes will drain the battery faster.

In terms of cleaning performance, our XIaomi Robot Vacuum X10 Plus review unit did not disappoint, keeping its assigned areas around the living room dust free and clean such that it remained comfortable to walk around barefoot without that sticky sensation under foot of a poorly cleaned floor.

Our Xiaomi Robot Vacuum X10 Plus review sample managed to keep the floors dust free without any noticeable stickiness during our review period though especially stubborn floor stains may require human intervention with a bristle brush.

The fact that the X10+ does its tasks automatically without human intervention save for the occasional top up of clean water and disposal of grey water later makes it a fantastic time saver. Even after letting it run for close to a month on its own, the dust bag hasn’t yet been fully filled though it will need eventual replacement later on when it gets completely filled up and Xiaomi fortunately offers replacement bags for sale.

Like anything with moving parts, the Xiaomi Robot Vacuum X10+ also has parts that wear out and require replacement over time – namely the mop pads, front and underside brushes among them as well as the aforementioned disposable dust bags which does require a modest additional investment though the provided set lasts for a good while and even after a month plus of testing have shown no signs of wear.

It would have been nice to have more spares bundled with the unit but they can be easily purchased on Xiaomi Malaysia’s online store here.
