Xiaomi’s edgeless Mi Mix concept phone sells out in 10 seconds

Xiaomi has just upped their game as they’ve created a phone that is effectively a wishlist of everything a technophile would conceivably want in a phone. starck_mix_6Dubbed the Mi Mix, Xiaomi’s latest concept phone has been devised by renowned French designer Philipe Starck and is hewn from a single block of ceramic – even the buttons are made of ceramic – without the use of any adhesives or plastics. A more premium version also exists with 18 Karat gold trim around the camera and fingerprint sensor along with an optional leather casing to add that extra touch of class to the whole affair.

Materials aside, the Mi Mix achieves the elusive grail of what many phone makers have sought to achieve for years – a truly edgeless 6.4-inch screen with an impressive 91.3% screen-to-body ratio. Paired with this is a Snapdragon 821 2.35GHz processor running Android 6.0 Marshmallow with MIUI 8 and up to 6GB RAM and up to 256GB of storage. The rear 16-MP camera comes with phase detection autofocus along with a fingerprint sensor too.

The front 5-MP camera has been moved to the bottom and the phone has a new series of innovative new tech in terms of how it handles audio and proximity sensors. On the audio front, they use what they call cantilever piezoelectric ceramic acoustic technology that converts electric signals into mechanical energy in lieu of a traditional earpiece speaker. Instead of an infrared proximity sensor, they’ve integrated an ultrasonic proximity sensor too. Keeping things powered is a 4,400 mAh battery with Quick Charge 3.0 tech.

The standard 4GB variant with 128GB storage retails for RM3,499. If you’re aiming for something classier, the limited edition variant, dubbed the Mi Mix 18K integrates the aforementioned gold trim into its chassis and has 6GB RAM and 256GB of storage. Alas, if you’ve been hankering for it, you’ll have to wait awhile though as the Mi Mix, which went on sale on Xiaomi’s website sold out in ten seconds. Another flash sale begins on 8 November. There’s no word on an official launch in Malaysia yet but we’ll keep you all in the loop.
