LEGOLAND set to celebrate Star Wars 40th anniversary with events galore and new LEGO sets!
On May 4th, Star Wars fans around the world are gearing up for the 40th anniversary of the release of the first movie that kickstarted the inception of a multi-movie franchise set in a galaxy far, far away that ignited imaginations across the world, influenced the future of sci-fi and made history. In case you’re completely clueless what we’re referring to, it’s the 40th anniversary of the debut of Star Wars: A New Hope, the first of a host of movies directed by George Lucas. LEGOLAND Malaysia is slated to celebrate the day in a massive way with a host of activities and celebrations at the resort that will take place starting the week before the big day on 28 April (this Friday) all the way to the end of May.
Across 34 days and five weekends, visitors to LEGOLAND Star Wars will get to experience the largest Imperial march in Asia with over a hundred Star Wars characters taking part in a parade down the streets of LEGOLAND Malaysia (13 and 14 May), a special Star Wars scavenger hunt across the resort, Star Wars movie screening nights at the LEGOLAND hotel for the first two Star Wars movies (9.30PM onwards) and much more. There will also be a special commemorative event to celebrate the memory of Carrie Fisher, who played Princess Leia Organa in the movies and was present in spirit in the most recent movie, Rogue One where she was played by body double Ingvild Deila with a digital representation of her features as she was in A New Hope. Details are scarce on the ceremony but the onion cutting ninjas are sure to be prevalent when it happens.
The centerpiece attraction is the massive Star Wars miniland exhibit which spans six massive air-conditioned rooms with each one comprising key moments across the six movies of the franchise from Episode 1 to 6 built entirely of LEGO bricks to the tune of over 1.5 million bricks used in the construction. To enhance the experience, the experience will now have live Jedi knights on hand accompanying the exhibits to share more about what makes each attraction so exciting. To get in the spirit of things, LEGOLAND is also offering a host of special rewards to commemorate the Star Wars saga:
-If you have kids, you can get free entry for them if you dress them up in full Star Wars regalia.
-If you buy tickets online early from 19th April to 9th May to LEGOLAND Malaysia, you get an early bird discount at 20% off.
-If you buy two 1-day theme park/combo tickets online, from 10th – 20th May 2017, you can also enjoy a 28% discount.

Key to the new launch is a series of exclusive LEGO Ultimate Collector Series and normal sets that will be available at LEGOLAND resort and at selected retail stores nationwide in May 2017 in time for the anniversary. Malaysia is the first to launch the new sets in Southeast Asia ahead of other markets.
Shown at the press conference were prototypes for four sets – the classic Rebel T-47 Snowspeeder with working airbrakes, opening cockpit and 2 minifigures for RM999.90; the Jedi Starfighter with a detachable quick release for the hyperdrive and four mini figures that include an astromech droid for RM549.90 ;the Arrowhead starfighter from the LEGO Star Wars: The Freemaker Adventures Series with 4 minifigures and an R0-Gr droid for RM449.90 and Tracker 1 starfighter that has a probe droid and three minifigures which also include Emperor Palpatine for RM349.90. Alas the only complete set they had to showcase was the Snowspeeder and it looked immensely detailed on close inspection.
