OPPO’s F5 with Fullview display and AI-enabled selfie camera arrives in Malaysia for RM1298
Teased over the last few weeks, OPPO’s selfie centric camphone the F5 that has been hinted to come with a wide-angle fullscreen display and beefed up selfie capabilities has finally made its official debut in Malaysia.
Rather than going with just a pixel-race, the OPPO F5 adds in artificial intelligence to the front 20-MP selfie camera, scanning over 200 distinct points of detail on a person’s face and allowing the phone to dynamically recognise a subject’s gender, age, skin tone and gender.
With this data, the phone then personalises the snap to create a more personalised, better looking shot that, according to OPPO, ‘emulates the abilities of a professional photographer’ to capture selfies of extremely high quality. This AI addresses the classic pickle of most automated beauty modes on phones by tailoring enhancements so that male subjects aren’t subject to more, how shall we say, feminine enhancements and children don’t get aesthetic tweaks that make them look like adults. The front 20-MP selfie camera also has HDR to address overexposure issues as well as facial recognition tech to unlock the phone in lieu of the fingerprint reader. The rear comes with a 16-MP camera with an F/1.8 aperture and both front and rear cameras have HDR modes.
Selfie camera aside, the OPPO F5’s other interesting feature is its 6.0-inch FHD+ that comes with the popular 2:1 aspect ratio display with a 2,160 x 1,080 pixel resolution which is the first time that OPPO has introduced a display of its size into its line-up. As expected, the phone eschews any front facing buttonry and moves the fingerprint reader to the back with navigation via virtual buttons up front. The rest of the hardware on the OPPO F5 consists of a MediaTek Helio P23 MT6763T 2.3GHz octacore processor paired with 4GB RAM and 32GB of expandable memory and a 3,200mAh battery crammed into a machined unibody aluminium casing with sleek antenna bands on the top and bottom.
Garena also announced a collaboration with OPPO’s official launch with their popular Arena of Valor MOBA game. Users who purchase the OPPO F5 will get a free code to get a playable Joker to use in the game. Yes, it’s that Joker – Batman’s archnemesis and D.C archvillain for use in AOV.
In Malaysia, the OPPO F5 is up for pre-orders from 2 to 10 November 2017 at OPPO sales points nationwide or online at the official OPPO website as well as at OPPO etailers that include Lazada, 11street, Shopee and more. The phone retails for RM1,298 in your choice of gold or black. Another upgunned version of the F5 with 6GB RAM and 64GB of storage along with a unique red finish as well as the obligatory black has also been announced though there are no firm details as to its price and availability. OPPO also announced another phone from the same lineage dubbed the OPPO F5 Youth though details are scarce as to how it earns its nomenclature. Swing by www.oppo.com/my/shops for more details.
