Samsung Galaxy Tab S8 series with gorgeously huge 120Hz AMOLED displays debut at Galaxy Unpacked 2022

The latest Samsung Galaxy Unpacked 2022 revealed the flagship Galaxy S22 Ultra and its siblings the Galaxy S22 and S22+ along with a trio of new Galaxy Tab S8 series tablets with huge 120Hz AMOLED displays, equally massive batteries and for revamped S Pen styluses for two of the larger models in the series

What are the Galaxy Tab S8 tablet series?

Samsung Galaxy Tab S8 series come in three sizes dubbed the Galaxy Tab S8, the Galaxy Tab S8+ and the Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra. All of these new Galaxy Tab S8 tablets are powered with an identical 4nm 64-bit processor which is most likely the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 with Android 12 running under the hood, feature quad Dolby Atmos speakers and, depending on size, feature different RAM and storage configurations and battery capacities. The new Galaxy Tab S8 series all also feature expandable storage via a microSD card slot and, depending on region, may come in 4G/ 5G enabled and WiFi only variants.

All of the new Galaxy Tab S8 series are also tougher than ever before and have a chassis made of Armor Aluminum which renders them 30% more resistant to nicks and dents and 40% less prone to bending versus the older Galaxy Tab S7. This material was first used in the Galaxy Z Fold3 and Flip3.

What is the Samsung Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra

The top of the line Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra features a whopping 14.6-inch Super AMOLED display with a 120Hz display with WQXGA+ resolution (2,960 x 1,848 pixels)and a 120Hz refresh rate, come with a 4nm CPU which will most likely be the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, have either 8GB/12GB/16GB RAM and 128GB/256GB/512GB storage configurations and a huge 11,200mAh battery with up to 45W fast charging. 

The rear sports a dual camera with a 13MP autofocus camera and a 6MP ultra wide angle camera while the front hosts another dual camera setup with 12MP wide and 12MP ultra wide sensors that have auto framing so that all subjects are in the frame and triple microphones for better audio pickup. Both front and rear camera arrays are capable of up to 4K@30fps video. The tablet also features an S Pen stylus for artistic endeavours. It also only features one colourway called Graphite.

What is the Samsung Galaxy Tab S8+ and Galaxy Tab S8

The Goldilocks sized Galaxy Tab S8+ has a 12.4-inch WQXGA Super AMOLED display, also with a 120Hz refresh rate, the same 13MP and 6MP dual camera setup on the rear but has a single 12MP ultra wide angle camera for the front for video calls.

It has a similar CPU as the Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra which is a Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor. Storage configurations run into either 8GB or 12GB RAM and either 128GB or 256GB of storage. Keeping it powered is a 10,090mAh battery, also with up to 45W fast charging support. Like the Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra, the Galaxy Tab S8+ features an S Pen stylus.

The smallest of the lot is the Galaxy Tab S8 which has an 11-inch WQXGA 120Hz LTPS TFT display and retains similar 8GB/12GB RAM and 128GB/256GB storage configuration options as the Galaxy Tab S8+, a similar single 12MP front video call camera and rear 13MP+6MP dual camera array. It also has a modest 8,000mAh battery with 45W fast charging.

Colour choices for the Galaxy Tab S8 and Galaxy Tab S8+ include Graphite, Silver and Pink Gold. Like its larger siblings, the Galaxy Tab S8 also has an S Pen stylus.

What’s special about the Samsung Galaxy Tab S8 series

The Samsung Galaxy Tab S8 series run Android 12 but have Samsung’s One UI Tab 4 firmware as a special sauce which features a hefty dose of multitasking support much like the Galaxy Tab S7. Of note is their Samsung DeX mode which enables a desktop style interface on the tablet and the ability to multitask with multiple open apps via their Multi-active Window with the option to resize windows at will to suit your work style. 

The new Galaxy Tab S8 series all also feature a Clip Studio Paint app that enables you to pair it up with a Galaxy S22 series phone to allow for users to enjoy drawing on a full sized digital canvas with the phone itself acting as a digital palette. The new tablets also feature tight integration for video calls and live sharing with Google Duo for video calls and the like on top of enhanced videocall tech in the cameras and excellent battery life.

Samsung Galaxy Tab S8 series availability

At launch, Samsung announced that preorders start on 9th February 2022 with an official February 25th launch in Korea, the U.S and Europe with the Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra getting the Book Cover Keyboard free for preorders while the Galaxy Tab S8+ and Tab S8 get a Book Cover Keyboard Slim.
