It’s confirmed – the exciting 27th Samsung Galaxy Unpacked 2023 will take place in Seoul for the first time in history

It’s that time of year again when Samsung is slated to announce and deploy their next generation flagship smartphones in their own Galaxy Unpacked show that is also streamed live to a global audience. This time around they’ve changed the tempo as they’ve accelerated the date to the next Samsung Galaxy Unpacked 2023 to late July and, for the first time in history, are hosting it on their home turf in Korea.

Rather than the usual early August launch like last year’s Unpacked 2022 for the Galaxy Z Fold4 and Flip4, as well as the Galaxy Z Fold3 and Flip3 in 2021 that also typically take place in Europe or the U.S, the 27th Samsung Galaxy Unpacked 2023 will officially take place in late July 2023 in Seoul, specifically at COEX in Samseong-dong, Gangnam-gu.

The venue is highly symbolic as it lies at the intersection of Teheran-ro where some of Korea’s most innovative start-ups had their beginnings with millennial Buddhist temple Bongeungsa just opposite, creating an intersection where the past, present and future merge. 

What do we know about the 27th Samsung Galaxy Unpacked 2023

In an official statement, Samsung has confirmed that the next Galaxy Unpacked 2023 will feature their next generation foldable phones. There’s no official word on the exact model they will showcase but it will most likely be the successor to last year’s popular Galaxy Z Fold4 and Galaxy Z Flip4. 

“The foldable category embodies Samsung’s philosophy of delivering breakthrough innovation that pushes boundaries to reshape the future of mobile experiences,” said TM Roh, President and Head of Mobile eXperience (MX) Business at Samsung Electronics. “Hosting Unpacked in Seoul holds great significance both as it is a city that has become an emerging epicentre of innovation and culture as well as the foldable category.” This confirms a prior leak which was taken down that confirmed that it would take place in Seoul and that it would showcase their next generation foldable.

Holding the latest Unpacked event in July is markedly earlier than previous Unpacked events which usually take place in August and is the first time ever in their history that they’ve ever held it in Seoul, Korea. To date, the Samsung Galaxy Unpacked event in Seoul is the 27th such event held by the brand since they first kicked off their tradition of hosting their own special Unpacked events with the first taking place in March 2010 in Last Vegas. 

The first Samsung Galaxy Unpacked launched their first Galaxy S series phone in 2010 in Las Vegas. The 27th Galaxy Unpacked 2023 has gone full circle and will take place in Seoul, South Korea for their next generation foldable phones.

Each Galaxy Unpacked event typically heralds the launch of their flagship S-series foldables like the Galaxy S23 earlier this year in San Francisco, their foldables like the Galaxy Z Fold4 last year, the late Galaxy Note series launches and streches all the way back to the first ever Galaxy Unpacked launch that showcased their first Galaxy S series phone in Las Vegas in 2010 way back in the day.

Moving forward with the 27th Samsung Galaxy Unpacked 2023, Samsung will be focusing on different trend-leading cultural cities around the globe that closely align with the theme of each event with Seoul being selected this time around for its role in influencing global trends with its dynamic culture and innovation while also reflecting Samsung’s strong confidence in foldables.
