Pico 4 Ultra headset launched in Malaysia; mixed reality experiences yours for RM2,799
Virtual reality headset purveyor Pico has just launched their successor to the Pico 4 that debuted back in 2022 in Malaysia. Dubbed the Pico 4 Ultra, their new mixed reality headset is more powerful and visually more immersive than ever before with the ability to offer rich mixed reality experiences.
The Pico 4 Ultra has a visual resemblance to the earlier Pico 4 with a large front-mounted headpiece that covers the eyes with a battery pack on the back of the head to balance things out though the hand controls have been redesigned and the hardware has been upgunned from within and without while keeping the weight manageable with the front headpiece weighing about 304g and the rear portion about 276g for a grand total of 580g.
Up front, the Pico 4 Ultra has a pair of 2.56-inch screens with an effective 1,920 x 1,920 pixels resolution which offers about 62% higher rendering resolution than the earlier Pico 4 along with a 90Hz refresh rate layered with pancake lenses to offer a 105-degree field of view. To offer a rich mixed reality experience, the Pico 4 Ultra has a pair of 32MP colour passthrough cameras, an iToF depth-sensing camera and four environment tracking cameras.
This array of cameras enables the Pico 4 Ultra to offer the aforementioned mixed reality experiences along with the ability to serve up a panoramic screen workstation which acts as a virtual workspace, allowing users to open up and manage multiple tabs which comes in handy for productivity related tasks.
Powering the Pico 4 Ultra is a Snapdragon XR Gen 2 processor that has 20% better CPU performance and 250% better GPU performance compared to its predecessor. This is paired with 12GB LPDDR5 RAM and 256GB UFS 3.1 storage along with fast WiFi 7 connectivity. At present, the Pico 4 Ultra supports about 500 applications with apps sourced off their own Pico Store with support for Steam VR applications. Keeping the Pico 4 Ultra powered is a 5,700mAh battery that supports 45W wired fast charging.
Also launched alongside the Pico 4 Ultra are the Pico Motion Trackers that are worn around the ankles and which offer full body motion tracking for mixed reality experiences that offer about 25 hours of battery life on a single charge.
