Honor X9c 5G Malaysia price revealed; Ultra Tough Triple Defense phone priced from RM1,499

In a gala launch in downtown Kuala Lumpur, the Honor X9c 5G Malaysia prices were officially revealed alongside the surprise debut of the Honor X7c 4G budget phone.

Out of all the phones released in 2024, arguably the most practical may yet be the Honor X9c 5G that has just launched in Malaysia as it is demonstrably one of the toughest phones that money can currently buy while retaining a solid combination of price and value that includes an OLED display, a huge battery and an OIS-stabilised main rear camera.

Dubbed the Ultra-Tough Triple Defense Phone, Honor has vouched that the Honor X9c 5G has enhanced drop resistance, water resistance and scratch resistance, making it one of the toughest phones in the market.

Honor X9c 5G Malaysia – how is their latest phone so tough?

In a live field test at the Karcher training centre in Shah Alam, Honor Malaysia literally put the Honor X9c 5G through the wringer with a gauntlet of tests that would have totaled most other phones.

On top of being immersed in a simmering hot pot, the phone was used as a hammer to nail in a series of nails straight into wood along with being dropped from a two metre height enough to shatter tiles. The Honor X9c 5G was also subjected to the spray from a high pressure water blaster – enough to carve through a watermelon – without any damage.

To achieve this level of durability, the Honor X9c 5G has a specially engineered interior chassis design that has a 90% increase in shock-absorbing material coverage along with a 67% increase in elasticity to protect critical components like the motherboard and camera array.

This effectively means that the phone is designed from the inside out to survive impacts. Honor has also added double-tempered glass and a unique curved design that mitigates damage from corner impacts.

That’s not all, Honor has also lavished the Honor X9c 5G with an enhanced IP65M rating, ensuring that it can shrug off high pressure jets of water though water immersion is relatively modest at up to 25 cm deep for up to 5 minutes in comparison to its almost ludicrous levels of durability. In fact, the Honor X9c 5G has an SGS Five Star Comprehensive Reliability Certification, vouching for its durability.

To  vouch for its durability, the Honor X9c 5G has a 365 front-and-back crack replacement protection. The phone also vouches for its battery life with a 36-month battery assurance policy that lets you swap the battery out if its health is not to par within a year of purchase as well as a 180-day one to one replacement policy.

Honor X9c 5G Malaysia specs

In terms of specifications, the Honor X9c 5G Malaysia units will have a 6.78-inch 1.5K OLED display with 120hz refresh rate, 4,000nits HDR peak brightness, 3,840 risk-free PWM dimming, circadian night display and dynamic dimming to ensure a comfortable, vibrant viewing experience.

The screen also comes with stereo speakers capable of offering up to 300% increased volume; stereo speakers are typically a rarity in this price range, making its addition a pleasant surprise.

The successor to last year’s highly successful Honor X9b 5G, the Honor X9c 5G for Malaysia is a Snapdragon 6 Gen 1 chipset paired with 12GB RAM (plus an additional 12GB of virtual RAM) and either 256GB or 512GB of UFS 3.1 fast storage along with the latest Android 14 and their own MagicOS 8.0. Of note is that Honor X9c 5G Malaysia units will get 2 years of OS and 3 years of security updates.

Honor has also added a selection of AI features including Magic Portal, AI Eraser, Magic Capsule, AI Blur Private Info and Parallel Space. 

The rear of the Honor X9c 5G packs a dual camera setup built around a 108MP camera with a 1/1.67-inch large sensor with optical image stabilisation (OIS) for steady shots along with Honor AI Motion Sensing to capture crisp action shots and a 5MP ultra wide angle camera. The front packs a 16MP camera for selfies.

Keeping the Honor X9c 5G juiced is a 6,600mAh silicon carbide battery with 66W Honor SuperCharge wired fast charging. According to Honor, the phone is rated to offer up to 25.8 hours of video streaming playback. Even with 2% of juice left, the phone is capable of offering up to 50 minutes of call time. 

As a surprise, Honor Malaysia also released the budget Honor X7c 4G that also has almost similar levels of durability as the Honor X9c 5G including tempered glass protecting the display, drop and splash resistance as well as an SGS Premium Performance Certification for Drop and Crush Resistance though it has a slightly lower IP64 rating.

The Honor X7c 4G notably has 4G connectivity, a 6,000mAh battery with 35W wired fast charging, a 108MP main rear camera sans OIS, a 6.77-inch OLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate, TUV Rheinland Low Blue Light certification as well as 850 nits peak brightness and a Snapdragon 685 processor.

Honor X7c and Honor X9c 5G Malaysia price

The Honor X9c 5G Malaysia units will come in your choice of three colourways – Titanium Black, Jade Cyan and Titanium Purple and your choice of either 256GB or 512GB storage with the 256GB retailing for RM1,499 and the 512GB for RM1,699.
