New budget Samsung Galaxy A36 launched in Malaysia with up to 29 hours battery life, IP67 water resistance

While their flagship Galaxy S26 series takes the limelight, Samsung are still rolling out midrange workhorse designs and their new Galaxy A36 aims to offer as much bang for the buck as possible for under RM1,699.

The successor to last year’s Galaxy A35, the Samsung Galaxy A36 manages to mix a medley of the most desirable features from their flagship line-up without costing an arm and leg.

The Galaxy A36 features a 195g chassis that features IP67 dust and water resistance with a 6.7-inch Super AMOLED front display with FHD+ resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate along with 1,900 nits peak brightness. For added peace of mind, the display itself is also protected by Corning Gorilla Glass Victus+. Even better, it also sports stereo speakers too.

Running under the hood is the Qualcomm Snapdragon 6 Gen 3 processor rather than Samsung’s own Exynos chipset paired with 12GB RAM and 256GB of storage. The phone also runs the latest Android 16 with a guaranteed 6 years of security updates and 6 OS updates. Keeping the phone powered is a large 5,000mAh battery that’s rated for up to 29 hours of video playback.

On the rear, the Galaxy A36 sports a triple camera setup that consists of a 50MP f/1.8 camera that has optical image stabilisation, an 8MP f/2.2 ultra wide angle and a 5MP macro camera. Up front, you have a single 12MP f.2.2 camera for selfies and video calls.
