HUAWEI-exclusive Diabetes Risk Study Feature Now Available with New HUAWEI WATCH GT 7 series and HUAWEI WATCH Fit 5 Pro
Diabetes is becoming an increasingly important health concern among Malaysians, with the Ministry of Health Malaysia’s National Health and Morbidity Survey (NHMS) 2023 reporting that 15.6% of Malaysian adults are living with diabetes. In plain terms, this is equivalent to diabetes affecting approximately 1 in 6 adults nationwide.
However, diabetes and its symptoms often can go unnoticed especially in the early stages when positive lifestyle changes and treatment can make the most difference. Unfortunately, many Malaysians surveyed in the study were unaware they were living with diabetes.

To tackle this growing health challenge, the new HUAWEI WATCH GT 7 series that consists of the HUAWEI WATCH GT 7 Pro and HUAWEI WATCH GT 7 that has just been launched in Malaysia supports a new Diabetes Risk Study, enabling users to gain early diabetes risk insights through a simple, non-invasive experience that complements its comprehensive suite of health, fitness and activity tracking capabilities. Existing owners of the HUAWEI WATCH Fit 5 Pro can also enjoy this feature as well with a simple update to the latest software version.

What is the new Diabetes Risk Study feature in the HUAWEI WATCH Fit 5 Pro & HUAWEI WATCH GT 7?
Table of Contents
The Diabetes Risk Study feature is a feature that is now available for the HUAWEI WATCH GT 7 series and HUAWEI WATCH Fit 5 Pro users in Malaysia as a free update without additional cost. Leveraging HUAWEI’s photoplethysmography (PPG) sensor technology, users are able to gain early diabetes risk insights without requiring users to perform constant blood tests, each of which only offer a result at a specific point in time.
Located on the underside of the HUAWEI WATCH GT 7 series and HUAWEI WATCH Fit 5 Pro, the PPG sensor in tandem with HUAWEI TruSense technology analyses pulse wave signals and then intelligently combines this with user biometric information including age, gender, height and weight.

After collecting continuous health data over 3-14 days, the HUAWEI WATCH GT 7 and HUAWEI WATCH Fit 5 Pro can offer personalised diabetes risk insights based on detected patterns to help users make more informed lifestyle decisions. However, this does not replace conventional blood tests or medical consultation which are required as part of a comprehensive, holistic health assessment programme.
HUAWEI WATCH GT 7 series and WATCH Fit 5 Pro – How to Activate the Diabetes Risk Study Feature?
The Diabetes Risk Study feature on the HUAWEI WATCH GT 7 series and WATCH Fit 5 Pro is an opt-in feature that does not require a subscription fee and is available via a free update. It allows users to gain insight into their level of diabetes risk and is not intended for users who already have been diagnosed with diabetes.

One important thing to note is that the Diabetes Risk Feature is not a medical diagnosis or substitute for professional medical advice and results reflect recent patterns that may correlate with a higher risk of developing diabetes. You should always get your doctor as a primary source of medical advice.
To activate the Diabetes Risk Study feature on the HUAWEI WATCH GT 7 series and HUAWEI WATCH Fit 5 Pro, users need to:
- Update your HUAWEI WATCH GT 7 series or HUAWEI WATCH Fit 5 Pro (HOTA)
- Restart the watch
- Open the HUAWEI Research app on the watch
- Join the Diabetes Risk Study
- Wear the watch for 3–14 days
- View your results
