Acer is on the hunt with their new Predator G1 & 17X gaming rigs
Acer aims to take gaming up a notch with the launch of two new gaming rigs – the Predator G1 desktop and the Predator 17X notebook. Both come with some of the latest hardware in the market along with some impressive looks to match. The rigs both feature the aggressive angular design that the brand is known for and come with an array of hardware that renders them VR ready with support for the Oculus and HTC Vive along with OSVR and StarVR.
Acer Predator G1
The Predator G1 desktop comes with an exterior casing with an aesthetic akin to segmented armour plate in a chassis that is a good deal smaller than a conventional desktop tower. Under the hood, it runs Windows 10 Home 64-bit on an Intel Core i7-6700 processor paired with 16GB DDR4 RAM and an NVIDIA GeForce GTX1080 GPU.
Storage needs are taken care of by a 128GB SSD along with a 2TB hard disk. In terms of portage the G1 sports a card reader, a pair of audio jacks, a one front-facing and four rear USB 3.0 ports and one front-facing USB 3.1 port. To keep the kill ratios up, the G1 comes with what Acer calls ‘Killer DoubleShot Pro’ tech that automatically selects the fastest network connection be it cable or wireless and then prioritises network traffic for the game you’re playing.
The G1 also ships with a Predator gaming mouse and a Predator Flare mechanical keyboard with customisable backlighting along with a clamshell suitcase to hold it all in for the sum of RM10,999.
Acer Predator 17X
The Acer Predator 17X gaming notebook comes with a similarly aggressive angular armoured aesthetic and comes with a 17.3-inch IPS 1080p display, an Intel Core-i7-6820HK 2.7Ghz processor paired with 32GB RAM while storage needs are covered by a 256GB PCIe along with a 1TB hard disk.
Of note is that it packs an Nvidia GeForce GTX 980 GPU that offers desktop class graphics which is quite a feat for a notebook. The 17X’s keyboard is backlit with an RGB colour gamut so you can get the exact shade you want on the keyboard when gaming. The touchpad has also been tweaked so that it locks out other accidental button combos when you’re playing a game so you don’t accidentally end up hammering the Windows key or doing something else erroneous and end up losing the match. Sound is taken care of by a pair of front-facing speakers and a subwoofer in the base of the 17X, all of which have been beefed up with Dolby Audio tech.
There’s a bunch of other interesting gaming-centric tweaks and features as well with the ability to, assuming you have the hardware of course, link up and output video to a three-display panoramic array via the two display ports and HDMI port. The G17x also has a uniquely designed cooling fan that uses 99.9% pure electrolytic copper for superior cooling paired to the notebook’s thermal fans. The prince for this princely beast of gaming royalty? An equally princely RM12,999.
