Apple self service repair will allow iPhone 12 and 13 owners to fix their own phones
Getting an iPhone repaired is usually something that requires a trip to an Apple store or an authorised outlet with trained technician with access to original parts but Apple is now offering the option for self service repair to allow skilled users to repair their own iPhone 12 and iPhone 13 smartphones.
What is Apple self service repair
The initial phase of the Apple self service repair programme will allow users to fix the most common components that tend to go kaput through misadventure or wear and tear such as the display, battery and camera with additional repairs available later next year.
How Apple self service works is that users will have to check out the repair manual for their iPhone 12 or iPhone 13 and then place an order for the appropriate parts and tools via the Apple Self Service repair online store with 200 parts and tools available with more to come in the future.
Naturally, this method implies that the user is a relatively skilled technician able to repair electronics to some degree and who knows the right end of a soldering iron and a circuit board and shouldn’t be something attempted on a lark.
Later on, Apple will expand the self service repair option to Macs with M1 chips next year with an initial rollout in the United States before expanding to other countries later on throughout 2022 though there’s no mention just yet of when Malaysia will get access to self service repair.
“Creating greater access to Apple genuine parts gives our customers even more choice if a repair is needed,” said Jeff Williams, Apple’s chief operating officer. “In the past three years, Apple has nearly doubled the number of service locations with access to Apple genuine parts, tools, and training, and now we’re providing an option for those who wish to complete their own repairs.” For more details check out their official release https://www.apple.com/sg/newsroom/2021/11/apple-announces-self-service-repair/
