Asus launches the ultra slim ROG Zephyrus GX501 gaming rig and more
Gaming notebooks are usually ponderously unwieldy affairs which requires the sort of fitness levels afforded to an Olympic weightlifter to tote them around but the new Asus ROG Zephyrus GX501 aims to buck that trend as it’s not only powerful but light in the bargain too.
The notebook is just 16.9mm thin and weighs a mere 2.2kg, making it one of, if not the world’s lightest gaming rig mounting an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 card. The rest of the hardware is equally impressive. A wide 15.6-inch Full HD display ensures luscious gaming visuals while an Intel Core i7-7700HQ 2.8GHz processor runs under the hood paired with 9GB DDR4 RAM and the aforementioned NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 graphics card which allows it to support VR experiences. The keyboard is fully backlit and the Zephyrus GX501 also has enhanced cooling tech to eliminate system throttling and improve the system temperature by 20% and the airflow by 32% which is quite a feat. Something this light and powerful naturally doesn’t come cheap and it costs a princely RM15,999 but it’s an investment against a slipped disc.
In terms of gaming desktops, the ROG GT51CH is an imposing with a glowing cyclopean eyeball plonked up front. The hardware consists of an overclockable Intel Core i7-7700K 4.2GHz processor, 32GB of DDR4 RAM clocked at 2,400MHz, an NVIDIA GeForce GTX1080Ti graphics card, a 512GB M.2 PCIe SSD and a massive 2TB hard drive. All this clocks in at RM11,999.
Slightly more affordable is the ROG Strix GD30CI that bears a clinically white finish and black trim that won’t look out of place from Imperial Stormtrooper issued kit. It sports an i7-7700 3.6GHz processor, an NVidia GeForce GTX1070 processor, 16GB of DDR4 RAM and a 256GB M.2 PCIe SSD paired with a 1TB hard disk. The ROG Strix GD30CI retails for RM7,499.
The ROG Zephyrus GX501 and GT51CH is available for preorder while the Strix GD30CI is available at leading retailers on 18 September 2017. For more news on Asus click here.
