Cyberpunk 2077 mobile version is dangerous malware – TLDR don’t download it!
Cyberpunk 2077 the game is many things. A gaming tour de force that’s been years in the making. A bug laden mess of a game that’s available on almost every major game known to man.
However, what it is not is that there is no mobile version of the game on Android or iOS but that hasn’t stopped malicious hackers from pushing out malware masquerading as Cyberpunk 2077 mobile.
Is there a Cyberpunk 2077 mobile or is it malware?
According to Kaspersky malware analyst Tatyana Shishkova on her Twitter, she discovered that malicious actors have come up with a fake website that resembles the Google Play Store where users can download ‘Cyberpunk 2077’ Mobile.
When downloaded, the obviously fake Cyberpunk 2077 mobile game installs ransomware on your device and demands US$500 in bitcoins to be sent to the attackers as ransom within 10 hours or the files on your phone will be permanently deleted.
❗️ RC4 algorithm with hardcoded key (in this example – “21983453453435435738912738921”) is used for encryption. That means that if you got your files encrypted by this #ransomware, it is possible to decrypt them without paying the ransom. https://t.co/Lj1hD1SvRK

The malware is called CoderWare which is part of the BlackKingdom ransomware family that typically targets enterprise VPNs.
Fortunately, Shiskhova notes that they didn’t quite get the job done right as the malware has a hardcoded key baked within the source code of the CoderWare ransomware that does allow for file recovery .
As always, save the grief and buy a legitimate version of a game and in this particular case, if it’s too good to be true, it’s usually not. For more cybersecurity reports, check out Kaspersky’s www.securelist.com
