Here’s 2 power flagship camera phones to check out – HONOR Magic6 Pro and HUAWEI Pura 70 series
The bar for smartphone photography gets set ever higher by the year as smartphone manufacturers vie to add ever more powerful features in order to deliver results that would have once required a full sized camera to achieve.
Once upon a time, HONOR was a sub-brand of HUAWEI but since parting ways to strike their own path in the world, they’ve grown into their own. Expanding on the rich legacy of its predecessors, the Magic6 Pro by HONOR, which debuted earlier this year, offers new standards of image quality, especially in capturing fast-moving subjects in a sleek form factor.
To meet the clamouring need for a more elegant colourway, HONOR has just issued the Magic6 Pro with a Cloud Purple finish that adds a classy yet gentle touch to the phone. Now available nationwide in Malaysia, the HONOR Magic6 Pro Cloud Purple is as powerful as its existing siblings with an Epi Green or Black colourway.
HUAWEI hasn’t rested on their laurels and debuted their flagship Pura 70 smartphone series in Malaysia, which also has an emphasis on delivering powerful, detailed images from its rear camera array.
While both flagship phone line-ups have an emphasis on ensuring top-shelf image quality they subtly differ in a variety of meaningful ways. Here’s how the HONOR Magic6 Pro Cloud Purple differs from the new HUAWEI Pura 70 series and what makes each one unique…
Powerful camera arrays
Table of Contents
The newly arrived HONOR Magic6 Pro Cloud Purple as well as the recently launched HUAWEI Pura 70 series are bona fide flagship camera phones that approach the concept of quality smartphone photography in different yet meaningful ways.
The HONOR Magic6 Pro features a 50MP Super Dynamic Falcon Main Camera with an adjustable aperture and optical image stabilisation (OIS), a 50MP ultra wide angle camera and an impressive 180MP telephoto camera that utilises a periscope-style lens design with 2.5x telephoto zoom. That’s not all, the HONOR Magic6 Pro has an array of AI enhanced features too such as an AI Motion Sensing mode to keep fast-moving objects in sharp focus and a Magic Take mode to automatically capture shots faster than what human reflexes can manage. Notably, it includes an innovative Flicker sensor that corrects artificial lighting flicker, ensuring more natural-looking, better-quality images.
The HUAWEI Pura 70 series hosts three different models with each model hosting slightly different camera specifications culminating in the most powerful model, the Pura 70 Ultra, which features a primary 50MP main camera with a retractable lens and selectable F/1.6 – F/4.0 aperture and sensor-shift OIS, a 40MP ultra wide angle camera and a 50 MP Ultra Lighting Macro Telephoto camera module with OIS and 3.5x optical zoom. It also hosts an HUAWEI XD Motion Engine to capture extremely fast-moving objects at up to 300km/h and capture objects at incredible close distances with 35x macro zoom along with the HUAWEI XD Fusion Pro Engine for more lifelike colours rendition in shots.
Tough and lusciously vibrant displays
The HONOR Magic6 Pro Cloud Purple hosts a luscious 6.8-inch LTPO OLED quad curved display capable of displaying up to 1.07 billion colours onscreen while offering up a 120Hz dynamic refresh rate. Protecting the display is HONOR’s latest generation NanoCrystal Shield coating that has been quoted to be 10x stronger than conventional glass against drops and scratches including head-on drops from razor sharp knives. Its toughness has even been certified too with a 5-star SGS Glass Drop Resistance Ability Certificate in multiple scenarios.
The HUAWEI Pura 70 series which consists of three different models maxes out at a 6.8-inch LTPO OLED curved display in the Pura 70 Ultra which has a 120Hz dynamic refresh rate and equal colour rendition quality with the ability to display up to 1.07 billion colours onscreen. It also gets kitted out with second generation Crystal Armour Kunlun Glass with significantly improved 300% better scratch and 100% better damage resistance to its predecessor, making the display just as scratch and drop resistant as the Magic6 Pro.
Where the HONOR Magic6 Pro Cloud Purple does edge out slightly is its TÜV Rheinland Circadian Friendly, Full Care and Flicker Free Certification for its display that further ensures that it is easy on the eyes though both are exceptional quality OLED displays that are among the best in the market.
Battery Power
The HONOR Magic6 Pro Cloud Purple like its other siblings done up in Epi Green and Black hosts a 5,600mAh battery with fast 80W wired charging, 66W wireless charging and also offers reverse wireless charging.
The new HUAWEI Pura 70 series which consists of the baseline Pura 70, the Pura 70 Pro and the Pura 70 Ultra have slightly smaller battery capacities, maxing out at a 5,200mAh capacity for the Ultra variant though it does have significantly faster 100W wired charging support, faster 80W wireless charging and 20W reverse wireless charging capabilities which allow for faster top-ups in the field.
Powerful performance
The HONOR Magic6 Pro Cloud Purple uses Qualcomm’s latest flagship mobile processor, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 CPU that is built on an efficient 4nm process which was introduced near the tail-end of 2023 and which has the Hexagon NPU for generative AI and Spectra ISP for AI-enhanced imagery in real-time..
On the other hand, the new HUAWEI Pura 70 series phones all use the HiSilicon Kirin 9010 processor that was introduced this year and which is built on a 7nm process with a host of special optimisation tweaks to enhance endurance and performance. Regardless, both the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 and Kirin 9010 are flagship-grade chipsets, both equally capable tackling demanding tasks like intensive gaming, video editing and more.
When viewed side by side, the HONOR Magic6 Pro and the Pura 70 series each are powerful smartphones in their own right with distinct strengths that build on a common shared ancestry when both HUAWEI and HONOR were one company though both have now since evolved to become distinctly unique offerings for those seeking a powerful camera phone in Malaysia.
