New Honor X9d 5G phone in Malaysia sets the bar for toughness, prices start from RM1,499

We previously previewed the new Honor X9d 5G tough phone in a briefing where they subjected it to all manner of terrifying tests that involved the use of a nailgun, a plasma cannon, a stapler gun at point blank range and more. In a grand launch at M Resort, Honor has finally announced that the phone is available for preorder and how much it costs.

Intended as the successor to last year’s X9c 5G, the new Honor X9d 5G is significantly more durable than the prior model with the use of Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2 on the display for reinforced resistance to knocks and drops and the implementation of a flat panel for the display which reduces potential stress points for breakage.

The interior chassis of the phone also integrates an aerospace-grade non-Newtonian fluid layer that hardens on impact to provide 300% greater shock absorption potential along with a 6-layer shock-absorption framework to offer a 112% improvement in overall shock protection.

On top of shrugging off impacts, the new Honor X9d 5G is also rated for IP69K industrial-grade water resistance that surpasses the usual IP66, IP68 ratings in the market. The phone also has the ability to vibrate its speakers to expel dust and water from its ports.

Toughness improvements aside, the Honor X9d 5G has a 6.79-inch OLED 1.5K display with 6,000 nits peak brightness, uses the Snapdragon 6 Gen 4 processor, has 12GB RAM and either 256GB or 512GB of storage. The rear comes with a 108MP camera with OIS and EIS paired with a 5MP ultra wide angle camera. For selfies the camera has a single 16 MP camera.

Keeping the whole affair powered is an 8,300mAh battery with 66W wired charging and reverse charging support too.

In Malaysia, the Honor X9d 5G is available with 12GB RAM and 256GB storage for RM1,499 and RM1,699 for the 12GB RAM and 512GB storage variant with your choice of the signature Reddish Brown, forest green, sunrise Gold and Midnight Black colourways with nationwide availability from 10 October 2025.
