Here’s why the new HUAWEI Mate50 Pro Kunlun Glass Edition with Google apps is the flagship phone to own in 2022
Over the years, smartphone manufacturers and a host of third party vendors have resorted to creating protective phone casings and introducing tougher glass for displays to make them more durable with mixed success but the new HUAWEI Mate50 Pro Kunlun Glass Edition series that feature ultra tough Kunlun Glass takes the concept of durability to new heights.
The first smartphone to sport Kunlun Glass was the Mate50 Pro Orange Vegan Leather which was sold out nationwide on the first day it was made available in Malaysia. Seeing the overwhelming response, HUAWEI has now introduced two new premium colourways for the Mate50 Pro Kunlun Glass Edition dubbed Carbon Black and Silver for Malaysians.
With flagship-grade specifications including the latest Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 CPU, the powerful XMAGE camera system which has a physical aperture system, robust IP68 water and dust resistance as well as the addition of Google apps support via the new Lighthouse app, the new Mate50 Pro series, including the new Mate50 Pro Kunlun Glass Edition series are stylishly sleek and potent flagship phones in every respect.
The new HUAWEI Mate50 Pro Kunlun Carbon Black variant features a vegan leather backplate which has a luxurious texture akin to real leather while the Mate50 Pro Kunlun Silver has a smooth metallic silver backplate with both new phone displays sheathed with ultra tough Kunlun Glass. But what exactly is Kunlun Glass? The new HUAWEI Kunlun Glass is in essence a sophisticated new type of transparent material designed specifically for HUAWEI phones that have enhanced levels of resistance with 10 times the drop resistance compared to conventional glass. In demonstrated tests, the HUAWEI Mate50 Pro Kunlun Glass Edition series phones and its toughened Kunlun Glass were able to shrug off drops to the pavement and even crack open walnuts.

To achieve Kunlun Glass’ enhanced level of toughness, HUAWEI engineers took inspiration from the design of buildings made with concrete. On its own, concrete can crack and grow brittle over time. To address this, construction engineers add in steel rebar throughout the building frame to reinforce and ensure a stable load-bearing layer even if the building surface degrades over time.
HUAWEI engineers implemented this idea in Kunlun Glass by injecting almost ten quadrillion-level nanocrystals which are composed of a proprietary metal oxide compound that forms a molecular reinforcing layer in the glass.
This doesn’t just happen overnight as the process to form a sufficiently dense nanocrystal matrix throughout the Kunlun Glass panel itself requires a gruelling 24-hour, 108-step growth process using extreme heat at 1,600-degrees Celcius to ensure that it properly fuses with the glass such that it remains transparent yet tough when bonded to the Mate50 Pro Kunlun Glass Edition series display. Ultimately, the HUAWEI Mate50 Pro Kunlun Glass Edition series are the first smartphones ever to receive the prestigious Swiss SGS 5-star certification for glass drop protection, making them one of the toughest phones ever made.
Native Google app support for the HUAWEI Mate50 Pro Kunlun Glass Edition series and expanded to even more HUAWEI smartphones and tablets
One of the biggest pain points of users on HUAWEI smartphones was the lack of native Google apps though they’re actually native to Android and the Google Play Store despite the fact that HUAWEI phones run EMUI and have their own AppGallery app store. While the HUAWEI AppGallery does have a slew of viable apps that are often one-for-one alternatives to native Google apps, users often hankered for familiar options.
Fortunately, the latest HUAWEI smartphones like the Mate50 Pro Kunlun Glass Edition, its other Mate50 series siblings as well as a slew of recent HUAWEI tablets and phones all have the ability to run native Google apps like YouTube, Google Maps, Gmail, Google Meet and more by with the use of the new Lighthouse app that’s available for free on the HUAWEI AppGallery.
Not only does the Lighthouse app enable the Mate50 Pro Kunlun Glass Edition to run everyone’s familiar favourite native Google apps, the latest Lighthouse app update supports the use of multiple Google accounts on the same HUAWEI phone as well as even more apps off the Google native apps.
Installing and running the Lighthouse app is as easy as it gets and getting the update is a cinch. Once the update has been installed, here’s how to add multiple Google accounts to your HUAWEI phone.
Go to Settings > Go to Apps > Search for the Lighthouse app> Press the Settings button on the top right corner > Select Add account > Then just sign in to your additional Google account.
The new Lighthouse app update on the HUAWEI AppGallery not only allows for the use of multiple Google accounts on the same phone, it also adds in compatibility for a host of additional apps too. At present, here’s the latest list of apps that can now run on the latest updated Lighthouse installed phones.
