Huawei Mate50 series preorders for Malaysia exceed 1,000 phones in just 3 days

The Huawei Mate50 series is now up for preorders that are ongoing until 2nd November 2022 with an RM1 deposit netting buyers the chance to win the phone itself along with a slew of goodies. According to Huawei, enthusiasm for their flagship phone for 2022 is impressive with over 1,000 Mate50 series phones preordered in a span of 3 days since they’ve kicked off their Huawei Mate50 series preorder programme. That’s quite an impressive figure, all things considered.

While they have yet to state the official price of the Mate50, Mate50 Pro or Mate50 Pro Vegan Leather in Malaysia, the recent launch in China has the Mate50 price tag starting from CNY4,999 with 128GB of storage which works out to about circa RM3,239 and up. The Mate50 Pro at its China launch was priced at CNY6,799 which is about RM4,400 for 256GB of storage and up.

What is the Huawei Mate50 series

For the uninitiated, the Mate50 series all have IP68 water and dust resistance and feature the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen1 processor albeit with only 4G connectivity while running their own EMUI firmware. Of note is that the Mate50 Pro comes in a mainline variant which uses normal aluminium and Gorilla glass along with a more premium version in a bright orange Vegan Leather finish that uses their own patented Kunlun Glass that is effectively drop proof.

In terms of specifications, the base Mate50 has a 6.7-inch flat  OLED FHD+ display with a 90Hz refresh rate, 8GB RAM, up to 512GB of storage, a 4,460mAh battery with 66W and 50W wireless fast charging and 7.5W reverse wireless charging. The rear hosts a triple camera built around a 50MP camera with a physical variable aperture array capable of going from F/1.4 to F/4.0, a secondary 13MP ultra wide angle camera and a 12MP telephoto lens. Up front, it hosts a 13MP selfie camera.

The higher end Mate50 Pro, Vegan leather variant included has a 6.74-inch OLED curved display with FHD+ resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate,  8GB RAM, up to 412GB storage, a slightly larger 4,700mAh battery with 66W wired and 50W wireless charging with 7.5W reverse wireless charging. The rear of the camera features a mostly similar camera array with variable aperture though the telephoto lens is upgunned to a 64MP sensor.
