Huawei P40 Pro box leak reveals hints ahead of launch

Just like clockwork, Huawei is gearing up for the release of their first flagship phone of the year which has now been confirmed to the the Huawei P40 Pro and, in all likelihood the Huawei P40 as a leaked image has appeared on Chinese social media showing what looks to be the external box packaging alongside an existing P30 Pro box

As always, leaks ought to be taken with a grain of salt and a healthy dose of speculation but the design and font selection of the P40 Pro packaging does make it look very legit indeed.

The box gives several educated hints as to what the focus of the P40 Pro is about. For starters, it will likely have Leica-licensed lenses, seeing the bold subhead underneath the logo ‘Co-engineered with Leica’.

Another interesting hint is the inclusion of another logo at the base of the box with the sentence ‘Explore it on AppGallery’. This infers that the phone will not come with Google services installed and that Huawei is likely doubling down and expanding their AppGallery store for the P40 Pro. To be fair, it’s already seen quite a bit of growth and most Malaysia banking services and a good deal of more practical apps are already on the Huawei AppGallery at this point in time.

Another interesting titbit to infer from is why the author chose to boldly circle the P30 Pro’s ‘Quad Camera’ logo. If anything, the P40 Pro series will likely equal that or possibly even exceed that number of cameras crammed into the phone.

Other than the fact that the phone will come with Leica-licensed optics or hardware and that it will likely rely on the Huawei AppGallery for apps, it’s a safe bet for that the Huawei P40 Pro will run on their latest Kirin 990 octacore processor though whether it’s the 5G Soc or the standard variant is open to speculation at this point in time. Our money is on the former as the proliferation of 5G means that it’s in Huawei’s best interests that their flagship phones have 5G connectivity.

One more certainty is that the phone will come in several different flavours. On top of the obvious existence of the P40 Pro, there will almost certainly be a mainstream Huawei P40 in the works and, if they follow their traditional gameplan, a super premium version of the P40 Pro likely in collaboration with a luxury brand if the prior launches of the P30 and P20 edition are any indication.

Another additional titbit is their video teaser that confirms that the phone’s launch will be this coming 26th of March. We’ll fill you in as more leaks or details appear ahead of its official launch.
