IFA – Acer’s newly announced 1cm-thin Swift 7 is now the world’s slimmest laptop
At Acer’s global press conference at IFA, they let loose with a barrage of the latest hardware that include the new ultra-svelte Swift series notebooks led by their flagship Swift 7 along with its siblings the Swift 5, Swift 3 and the entry level Swift 1. Here’s a quick look at how they stack up:
Acer Swift 7
The flagship Swift 7, through some form of sorcery, manages to cram in the following – a 13.3-inch 1080P IPS display with a ridiculously thin bezel, Windows 10, up to a 7th Gen Intel Core i5 processor, up to 8GB memory and a fast 256GB SSD – all of which is sandwiched in a casing that’s just 9.98mm thin hewn of aluminium shaded in black and gold.
Rounding off its features is 2×2 802.11ac with MU-MIMO Wi-Fi, dual USB 3.1 Type-C ports and a HD webcam with HDR imaging support. Nine hours of battery life means that it has some serious endurance too.
Acer Swift 5
The Swift 5 is a bit thicker at 14.58mm and weighs 1.36kg, making it a bit more modest in terms of portability but adds in a 14-inch 1080P IPS display into the form factor of a 13-incher on account of the slim bezel. A 7th gen Intel Core processor, up to 8GB RAM, either 256GB or 512GB SATA or PCie SSDs, 13 hours of battery life, a USB 3.1 port, a fingerprint reader and your choice of having an optional touch display make it look just as tempting if you’re willing to forgo a bit on the payload side of things. It comes in either black or white with bronze trimmed hinges.
Acer Swift 3
The Swift 3 is 17.95mm thin and weighs 1.5kg but offers a 14-inch 720p or 1080p display, either a 6th or 7th gen Intel Core processor, a 512GB SSD, up to 8GB RAM, 2×2 MU-MIMO 802.11ac Wi-Fi, a USB 3.1 Type-C port and a fingerprint reader. The Swift 3 comes in either a shade of gold or silver.
Acer Swift 1
The Swift 1 is designed as an entry level design for students and those on a budget and has a 14-inch HD display, an Intel Pentium or Celeron processor, 4GB RAM and either 32GB/64GB or 128GB of storage in a form factor that weighs 1.6kg and is 17.9mm thin.
So, how much will they cost?
The Swift 7 will launch first Stateside in October with prices starting from USD999 (about RM4,085 ) depending on configuration. The Swift 3 will also launch at the same time as the Swift 7 with prices starting from USD499 (about RM2,040)
The Swift 5 and Swift 1 will launch a month later with prices starting from USD749 ( about RM3,063 ) for the Swift 5 and USD249 for the Swift 1 (about RM1,018). There’s no indications of a Malaysia release for any of these notebooks yet nor what configuration they’ll appear in locally but we’ll keep you posted on any updates.
