Juicy details of Galaxy S9 appear in official looking trailer before MWC2018 launch
A smartphone launch is a carefully choreographed affair that’s equal parts fashion show and product presentation with myriad parts of its unveiling timed carefully for maximum effect. Sometimes, some bits are out of sync and fire off a bit ahead of time which is where this official looking trailer for the Samsung Galaxy S9 comes into the picture.
The video is most likely intended for presentation at the launch and for immediate dissemination to the public aftewards. Apparently, it was accidentally uploaded but was immediately taken offline from YouTube though Slashleaks managed to capture it in all its glory.
The video confirms quite a few facts about the Galaxy S9 and S9+. For starters, the phones have aesthetics akin to their immediate predecessors the Galaxy S8 and S8+ with an Infinity wide aspect ratio screen, a Bixby and volume rocker button on the left, a power button on the right and smooth rounded edges all around. Their Grace UX looks by and large similar and it still has its touted multi-window functionality with the ability to display two apps simultaneously onscreen with split windows through their App Pairing feature that made its debut on the S8.

The trailer also emphasises the capabilities of the S9 for work and shows their rumoured Dex Pad in all its glory. Like earlier leaks, it’s a squarish, flat-shaped dock with a USB Type-C port at the base to dock the S9. In conjunction with a keyboard and a monitor, you’re also able to bring up a desktop display with the phone acting as the main processor. The trailer also confirms that the Dex Pad also uses the S9’s display as a touchpad when docked.
The trailer, starting from 0.55 demonstrates the mechanical aperture of the S9 as well as its ability to translate text on the fly via Bixby Live Translation and and the rear camera. The S9 will also have enhanced augmented reality functionality in tandem with their Bixby Vision platform. The trailer demonstrates a technician finding out which port does what in a server by simply viewing it through the phone camera. Third party AR apps can also be developed via their official SDKs.
The IP68 water resistance of the Galaxy S9 and S9+ is also emphasised as it survives a deluge of rain water. Later parts the video show that both new phones will retain the iris sensor for unlocking the phone on top of retaining a repositioned rear fingerprint sensor that is just below the camera. The phones will also have Knox 3.1 security that has a unique, secured partition specifically for work use.
The trailer also confirms that they will roll out Enterprise Edition variants specifically for corporate use; they are mostly identical bar tweaked firmware that makes it easier for companies to manage them on a large-scale, 24/7 technical support as well as extended warranties and support for up to 4 years. Stay tuned for more updates as the official launch nears.
