Kaspersky Lab rolls out free antivirus solution
Kaspersky Labs has just announced that they are rolling out a free version of their antivirus software for PCs. Dubbed Kaspersky Free, the antivirus software acts as the introductory tier to their array of antivirus solutions and covers the essentials by blocking dangerous files, websites, instant messages and e-mails for the low price of nought.
The announcement was made by Kaspersky Labs’ CEO and founder Eugene Kaspersky on his blog where he quoted “I’ve some fantastic, earth-saving news: we’re announcing the global launch of kaspersky Free which, as you may have guessed by the title, is completely free-of-charge! Oh my giveaway!”
Kaspersky Free is no-frills so it lacks some of the niceties of their higher-end, paid-for solutions like parental controls, online payment protection and VPN though you’re still getting a ton of benefits for free as it still uses their rigorously robust algorithms to detect all the usual nasties floating about the internet. “It’s based on the same technologies as those older brothers, which you all know always come out on top in independent testing. This means that, though it features just the bare basics, it still packs a punch – a punch we’re no less proud of,” said Eugene in his post.
He also added that Kaspersky Free eliminates much of the user tracking software festooning other solutions without compromising on performance.”The same protection without compromise: we detect any cyberthreat regardless of its origin or intention – even if certain folks don’t like it. At the same time Kaspersky Free doesn’t come cut with all the usual nonsense like advertising-oriented user-habit tracking and confidentiality infringements – which free AV normally suffers badly from in order to make it financially worthwhile to its manufacturers,” he added.
