How much would the Huawei P30 and P30 Pro cost in Malaysia?
The official launch of the Huawei P30 and its more powerful sibling the P30 Pro in Paris unveiled almost everything there is to know about the phones including their vaunted zoom capabilities and its price in Euros and its global release date but precious little was mentioned about how much the P30 and P30 Pro would cost in Malaysia. What is known is that the phone will be available for sale on April 6, the same time as Singapore.
At launch, the Huawei P30 was announced with a price tag of €799 which is about RM3,668 in local Malaysia Ringgit. The P30 Pro comes in three different storage variants, with the most premium 8GB RAM/512GB version costing €1249 which is about RM5,741. The cheapest variant of the P30 Pro with 8GB RAM/128GB storage costs €999 which is RM,4592. The midrange variant with 8GB RAM/256GB storage retails for RM5,052. These prices are heart stoppingly high and well north of what would be considered that of a premium phone but if you’re in Malaysia, fret not as the odds are extremely good that the P30 and P30 Pro will likely come with a more affordable price tag. Here’s why.
Huawei Malaysia has historically practiced a customer-centric approach for the local market with prices that match local spending power. This is evident from past product launches even from a few years back. Here’s a quick look down memory at just how much local Malaysia prices differ from the ones announced at the usual global launches.
At its global debut in 2017, the Huawei Mate 10 was announced to retail at €699 (about RM3,206) and the Mate 10 Pro at €799 (about RM3,668). When the Mate 10 hit store shelves in Malaysia, it cost RM2,699 while the Mate 10 Pro costs RM3,099. That’s about an RM500 difference, give or take some pocket change.
Huawei Mate 10 €699 global launch price (about RM3,206) / RM2,699 (Malaysia launch price)
Huawei Mate 10 Pro €799 global launch price (about RM3,668) / RM3,099 (Malaysia launch price)
Huawei P20 €649 global launch price (about RM2,975) / RM2,599 (Malaysia launch price)
Huawei P20 Pro €899 global launch price (about RM4,121) / RM3,299 (Malaysia launch price)
Huawei Mate 20 €799 global launch price (about RM3,668) / RM2,799 (Malaysia launch price)
Huawei Mate 20 Pro €1,049 global launch price (about RM4,806)/RM3,599 (Malaysia launch price)
Huawei P30 €799 global launch price (about RM3,668) / TBA
Huawei P30 Pro From €999 global launch price (about RM4,592) / TBA
The more recent P20 was announced at launch to retail at €649 which is about RM2,975 while the P20 Pro had a price tag of €899 which translates to RM4,121 at their launch last year in early 2018. When they landed in Malaysia in early April 2018, the P20 clocked in at RM2,599 and the P20 Pro at RM3,299. That’s an RM300 or so price difference for the P20 and an eyebrow-raising RM822 difference for the P20 Pro. The release of the last Huawei flagship phone, the Mate 20 and Mate 20 Pro also have similarly lower prices than that announced at the global launch.
It’s about a week away from the official April 6 launch date in Malaysia with invites already going out for the launch for invited guests but if we’re on the money and following their previous gameplan, the Huawei P30 and P30 Pro will most likely clock in cheaper than their global prices when they land in Malaysia. The fact that they’re throwing in a free Huawei Backup drive along with a host of as yet unannounced goodies makes acquiring one a tempting proposition indeed. Stay tuned for more updates as we’ll be covering the Malaysia launch!
