Operation Para Bellum update for Rainbow Six Siege arriving soon
Ubisoft’s door-kicking, tech-laden shooter Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege will see a new update coming soon dubbed Operation Para Bellum which will see new operators added to the list, a new map and a bout of balance changes all around.
Coined after the Latin phrase ‘Si Vis Pacem, Para Bellum’ which translates as “If you want peace, prepare for war”, though in this case more appropriately translated as “Prepare for War”, the update has little concrete details so far bar a teaser image that shows two operators walking through a field of grass approaching what appears to be a farmhouse in the distance. These two would presumably be the two new Italian defence-oriented Defenders operators who will be added to the game along with the new 19th map to the game.
Other details teased on the developer site include the addition of a new intel gadget, a buff to Echo and a revamped Pick & Ban system. The new system adds an extra layer of strategy to a match and allows players to counter their opponent’s picks with the possibility of switcheroos and shell games at the last minute.
The dev blog also mentions that contentious dropshotting in the game will be addressed in the update. Also known as ‘dolphin diving’ in other games, the practice involves players suddenly going prone while aiming down the sights and firing to make for a harder target in a firefight. It’s a royal pain in the posterior and it looks like the problem will finally get addressed this time around. Full details of the Operation Para Bellum update will take place at the Pro League Finals in Atlantic City on May 19 and 20.
