OPPO’s R9s outsells F1s in preorders
OPPO Malaysia seems to be playing their cards right, if the response by the vox populi is any indication. Currently, they have opened their latest flagship phone the R9s for preorders nationwide after their official launch a week or so ago spearheaded by a star studded celebrity line-up lead by Korean superstar Lee Min-Ho along with a posse of local celebrities that include songstress Min Chen and more. They’ve also spent a significant wad of change filming a commercial involving Min Chen and Lee Min-Ho in Korea which has just aired recently.
Their efforts seem to have paid off. The R9s retails for RM1,798 and features a rear 16-MP camera paired with an F/1.7 lens and a slew of imaging tech to capture brill snaps and 4K video too on top of packing a front-facing 16-MP selfie camera. It’s quite a bump up from the F1s that prioritises selfie snaps with a front-facing 16-MP camera with an F/2.0 lens and a rear camera for RM1,198. While the R9s has quite a bump up in its price tag, it’s also enjoyed better preorders too. According to an OPPO official, the response has been “highly encouraging.” According to official figures, the F1s enjoyed over 6,000 preorders when it was launched last year. According to sources within OPPO, while the R9s costs more, it also outstripped preorder demand by at least “30% or more compared to the F1s” That’s still a pretty good number in a market that’s already saturated with a host of sub RM-2K phones.
