Razer sustainability achievement unlocked – new keyboards, mice and headsets to feature more recycled materials

As one of the world’s largest peripherals manufacturers and the de facto choice of many a pro gamer, Razer makes a ton of gaming mice, keyboards and headsets for gamers across the globe. That naturally also generates quite a carbon footprint too. Fortunately, the Razer sustainability efforts have been ramped up as the brand will be expanding their use of recycled materials across their mice, keyboards and headsets.

Today’s gamers want innovation and performance but are acutely aware of the impact plastics  have on the world,” said Kenneth Ng, Sustainability Lead at Razer. “By using recycled materials  in our new products, and working to make our products more recyclable, we’re once again  delivering on the promises we’ve made, and are actively working to improve gaming products’ circularity and reduce environmental impact.”

Razer sustainability 2024 updates

When it comes to going green, the expanded use of recycled materials in their products is but one aspect of Razer sustainability efforts with other parts of their programme including their Razer Restorify programme helping to contribute to a greener world. Continuing on from their 2021 pledge to ‘Go Green with Razer’, the brand will feature more products that will integrate recycled materials in their manufacture.

At present, two products are spearheading their sustainability efforts, featuring significant amounts of recycled material – the Razer DeathAdder V2 HyperSpeed gaming mouse incorporates 40% recycled materials while  the Razer Ornata V3 gaming keyboard uses at least 20% with both products meeting rigorous UL2809 ECOLOGO criteria. At present, black is the primary colourway for products incorporating recycled material but Razer is exploring other colourways later on down the line.

Razer is also exploring ways to minimise the environmental impact of their products when they reach ‘end of life’ and exploring ways to reduce the amount of new materials used to make its products, create a circular product life cycle and above all, minimise environmental impact.

Razer sustainability declaration UL

Another key achievement in their green efforts is the announcement that the Razer Basilisk V3 Pro and Razer Basilisk Ultimate are the world’s first consumer electronics products to have an Environmental Product Declaration by UL Solutions, enabling customers to make an informed choice of just how large the carbon footprint, water, mineral and fossil resource usage of a product is on its packaging which is quite an impressive step forward.
