KV 4 - From Smart Assistants to Smart Doers - Why Agentic AI Is the Next Leap for Smartphones

Samsung shares how Agentic AI will change how Malaysians use smartphones

Like it or not, AI has become a part of daily life from kids using it to ‘creatively’ rephrase their homework to people in the office using it to summarise dreary emails. While they do have their uses, AI as people apply it to their daily lives, is primarily reactive in nature though Samsung is sharing how the next step – Agentic AI – can help take action rather than just answering questions like a savant.

What is Agentic AI?

For the uninitiated, Agentic AI are AI systems that can proactively help set goals, make decisions and take action autonomously instead of waiting for input on what to do for each step and then intelligently adapting based on feedback and outcomes. In essence, an Agentic AI works in a loop as follows:

1. Goal Definition – You define an objective, like “help me get through a busy workday.”
2. Context Gathering – The AI checks your calendar, location, traffic, habits, and notifications.
3. Planning & Reasoning – It decides what actions are needed.
4. Action Execution – Tasks are carried out across apps.
5. Feedback &Adaptation – The AI learns what worked and improves over time.

In the context of Malaysians, Samsung shared how Agentic AI can potentially preemptively check for traffic on the highway and then delay your upcoming meetings while automatically sending messages to colleagues that you’ll be late before helping to reroute you to a faster route via Waze.

For those who commute on public transport, Agentic AI can potentially help learn your routine and send reminders to leave early if rain or road closures are expected. According to Samsung, Agentic AI eventually learns preferences over time so that a phone becomes more like a personal assistant.

In more practical terms, Agentic AI can potentially offer enhanced privacy with more of it being run on device rather than being sent to the cloud, offering intelligent replies to tedious tasks like summarising long emails or group chats, drafting short replies and suggesting appropriate replies. In effect, smartphones will no longer act as tools and devices but as an actual intelligent assistant in everyday life.

Aside from outlining the potential applications for Agentic AI, Samsung has offered little detail on how the technology will manifest in its next-generation Galaxy devices. However, with the Galaxy S26 launch drawing closer, there’s a strong chance this could be one of the features introduced in their next flagship phone line-up though there is no official statement as yet on a launch
