Synology showcases ActiveProtect Manager 2.0 and improved enterprise-grade management to DSM

At Computex 2026, global storage solutions provider Synology shared their latest advances in threat detection, updates to ActiveProtect Manager as well as expanded features for their DiskStation Manager (DSM) operating system.

Synology DSM Updates

In a briefing, Synology shared their roadmap for their exceptionally popular DiskStation Manager (DSM) that has expanded from being a storage operating system into a robust intelligent data platform for governed, on-premises AI workflows that can provide actional insights from data and system metrics without compromising privacy for sensitive data or costs associated with cloud deployments.

Among the enhancements with the updated version of DSM is the ability to convert existing business data, system logs and metrics into a private knowledge base that AI agents can leverage with Synology Office Suite’s AI Assistant offering an immediate productivity boost.

Another addition to Diskstation Manager is DSM Agent which offers a guided experience for more effective automation of system-wide administrative tasks and the ability to manage tools and skills into full agentic workflows. DSM Agent also integrates guardrails and governance controls to ensure AI Workflow access and organisational data use remains transparent for IT teams.

For managing larger Synology deployments at scale, DSM’s Cluster Manager tools are able to integrate diverse deployments under a single management interface for easier oversight. To reduce administrative overhead, storage services and applications are containerised into isolated workloads for flexible fleet-wide workload migration and more efficient Quality of Service. Another feature is Active Insight’s Mass Deployment feature that speeds up provisioning and configuration for distributed environments.

For enhanced identity and access management, DSM now offers more granular Role-Based Access Control (RBAC)integrating an upgraded Log Center that can offer a consolidated single view of multiple logs for more effective monitoring along with the ability to natively export to industry-standard observability platforms. The Log Center also integrates FIPS 140-3 certification for verified security assurance for regulated environments. In the media briefing, Synology stated that these features will be rolled out progressively across upcoming DSM releases.

Synology ActiveProtect Manager 2.0 Updates

Alongside a revamped DiskStation Manager (DSM), Synology also announced the latest update to their ActiveProtect data protection appliances dubbed as ActiveProtect Manager 2.0 (APM 2.0).  With ActiveProtect Manager 2.0, stakeholders are able to enjoy expanded backup and recovery capabilities across major SaaS platforms, hypervisors  and cloud environments as well as AI-powered threat detection that shifts data protection from reactive recovery to a more proactive defense stance.

With ActiveProtect Manager 2.0, managers gain access to backup and recovery to Azure Virtual Machines, Amazon EC2, Nutanix AHV, Proxmov VE and Google Workspace. In addition, VM instances can now be restored across platforms to either cloud or on-premises environments for more seamless, effective disaster recovery. 

In addition, APM 2.0 is able to integrate with third-party antivirus solutions to scan backup data for malware to ensure clean versions are available for restoration.

Another quality of life update is the addition of an Auto Fallback that automatically reverts to the latest vulnerability-free back-up if a compromised restore point is detected. At their media briefing at Computex 2026, Synology stated that APM 2.0 is scheduled for deployment sometime in Q3 2026.
