TGV’s latest IMAX equipped multiplex is the ultimate way to watch Rogue One

There is something to be said for the magic of the silver screen where you can, with a customary tub of popcorn and a soda indulge in a bit of cinematic escapism from the daily grind. The new IMAX screen at the TGV multiplex within the new Sunway Velocity Mall is not just mere escapism, nay, it’s an entirely new level of immersion.

The crown jewel of TGV’s chain of multiplexes nationwide, the newly opened 9-hall multiplex cinema comes with 1,638 seats. The centerpiece – TGV’s IMAX hall comes with 287 spaced across the massive width of the hall with 40 of the seats being decadently upholstered Indulge seats. The screen itself dwarfs anything else in Malaysia and is, to date, the largest ever built in the country.

What better way to field test the abilities of this mammoth and fully operational IMAX screen than to view one of the most anticipated movies this side of Coruscant across its massive expanse: Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.

Opening night at TGV Sunway Velocity saw the cinema showcasing the premiere of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story in IMAX 3D. The immersion was amazing with the new and exquisitely tuned surround audio in the theatre firing up with the chilling new leitmotiv of the film, a sinister rework of the Imperial March done with a solo piano before being layered into the usual John Williams percussion fest. The rest of the movie was, to sum it up in the fashion of a famous character: ‘Impressive. Most impressive’. We’ll regale you with the movie review as soon as we put pen to paper.

To keep in the spirit of Rogue One, TGV Sunway Velocity will be having Star Wars themed opening celebrations through 15 to 31 December. Visitors can experience a pop-up tavern inspired by the setup at the Mos Eisley Cantina on Tatooine that will be available for the public to enjoy custom beverages from 17 December onwards. Star Wars fans can also take pictures at the nearby photo booth that comes with accessories aplenty. The photo booth is available from 1.00PM to 6.00PM on weekends. If you come in a Star Wars costume from 14 December onwards, you can redeem a free canned drink at the TGV Sunway Velocity Candy Bar concession stand.
