You can create your own Deus Ex augmentations next year

In Square Enix’s dystopian sci-fi RPG Deus Ex: Human Revolution, you play as one Adam Jensen, a post-human cyborg who will never pass a metal detector without it beeping like a Pachinko machine gone bonkers. Almost every single bit of him is augmented from his eyeballs down to his arms and legs with all manner of cybernetic augmentations that let him to land safely from ridiculous heights, punch through brick walls, extrude gigantic swords from his wrists that can kebab guards and even fire off a hail of explosions to smoosh anything within ten metres of him into meat goo.

What left a lasting impression though were his cybernetic arms that not only looked exquisitely beautiful but offered amazing articulation too. That and gigantic swords. Did we mention swords?

Now, Square Enix and Eidos Montreal have teamed up with Open Bionics, an UK-based prosthesis creator, and Razer, our favourite gaming hardware brand, to create a prosthetic arm that resembles Adam Jensen’s own cyborg digits as a 3D printable hand so that anyone with access to a 3D printer can create their own prosthetics. They have slated it to be available in multiple different sizes for both children, men and women. Razer’s ‘Stargazer’ webcam and Intel’s RealSense tech will allow people to give the cybernetic limbs a try at events and will make an appearance at E3.

It’s in the prototype stage at the moment but they hope to have the plans ready for free download as an open source file usable by any 3D printer by 2017. Unfortunately, there’s no word on if you can extrude fist swords or punch through walls but we can only hope. In the meantime, we can wait for the launch of the upcoming sequel to Human Revolution – Mankind Divided that is slated to launch on in August this year on PC, PS4 and Xbox One.
