Online marketplace Shopee fetes entrepreneurs with Shopee Seller Awards 2017

Online mobile-first marketplace Shopee has grown from strength to strength and has proven to be the platform of choice for a growing number of entrepreneurs in Malaysia and elsewhere in the region. Today, Shopee feted its most successful entrepreneurs in Malaysia in a grand gala dinner at the Double Tree by Hilton Hotel in Kuala Lumpur. The dinner also saw Shopee’s most successful sellers with the best track records awarded for their performance and support in their inaugural Shoppee Seller Awards. Of note was Ms. Te Mei Hong with Shopee ID:cathyshop who earned the Seller of the Year award and who won a trophy, cash prizes worth RM3,500 and an advertising spot worth RM30,000 on Shopee.

The event was opened with a keynote by guest of honour Yang Berhormat Dato’ Sri Hajah Nancy Shukri, Minister from the Prime Minister’s Department and YBhg. Datuk Moh Shukrie Mohd Salleh, Chief Executive Officer, Pos Malaysia.

Shopee Regional Managing Director Ian Ho also took the stage to share a few words with the invited guests as well as details on Shopee’s success. To date, Shopee has recorded an annualised Gross Merchandise Value (GMV) of USD2.5 billion regionally with more than 30 million installs of the app in over 7 countries. Malaysia has contributed over two million unique installs. Ian Ho also shared several new developments with Shopee including the implementation of cash on delivery starting May 2017 which will potentially improve uptake on its diverse array of products offered on the site.

In addition to the Seller of the Year award, Shoppe also awarded a host of other awards to multiple categories including Most Popular Official Shop, Best in Beauty & Personal Care, Rookie of the Year, Most Supportive Seller and more. Of the awards listed, several were opened for public voting which ended on 20th March and which saw an ardent response from the public.
